Qazi is the man. There is doubt and he deserves all the success he has, first and foremost, for being a generous and humble human, secondly for sharing, and last but not least, cause he has mad skills and masses of industry knowledge. Allow me to make a suggestion: SONY A7s... 8 BIT... PROBLEM: So we always have trouble with the magentas, the greens etc when trying to get a perfect skin with a Sony. SOLUTION: Kill the middle man. Start the "lie" already on cam! Why manipulate a tight 8 bit 4:2:0 in post when we can get the cam to start doing this job for us, before we stretch the poor image? Stay with me pls... ADJUST YOUR CUSTOM PICTURE PROFILES. CREATE A CUSTOM ONE. ADJUST THE SETTINGS (DETAIL -7 etc), PARTICULARLY THE COLOR DEPTH 6 CHANNELS (RGBCMY) This last part is the key. Now: 1. Make sure you always have perfect white balance using a color card. 2. Make different tests (different adjustments of color depth) of a good medium shot of SKIN. 3. Drop the tests into Davinci. This is the fun part: In Resolve, mask out a portion of the skin. Where does it lie on the skin vectorscope? Too much green? Ok, then go back to cam and adjust the pic profile color depth, increasing the magenta and dropping the green. Go back to Resolve. Keep doing this until your off camera footage, when dropped into Resolve, matches the skin tone with the skin vectorscope. And boom! You're done. Sure, I've also changed all the other colours in the image, not just the skin, but that's ok, because these can easily be brought back when needed (hue v hue parallel node). What matters is that the SKIN LOOKS GREAT OFF CAMERA BEFORE WE STARTED STRECTHING IT IN RESOLVE. Anyway, that's my 2 penny. If anyone wants I can upload a video showing the settings and how it matches the skin in Resolve off cam. I use a sony A7iii and an R2 btw. Peace!

Qazi why don't you do a series on comparing your grade with your student's grade? Or comparing what's good and bad grade.
@duynhp
4 жыл бұрын
There's nothing that called ''good grade'' or ''bad graded'', everybody has their own perfect looks, sometime studient's grade much better some cases. It's similar that when 100 people step out from a cinema hall after watching a film, not 100% percent love the film, everybody has theri own taste

@@JasKenMoore I would only get the panel if you're looking to do this professionally. As a beginner, spending $30,000 right from the start is not ideal. I would work on learning first and even professionally working with what you have first before spending that much on a color panel. Also if you're working in premier rather than DaVinci, I don't think the panel is needed. I would suggest working in DaVinci Resolve completely with what you have first if you're a beginner.

I totally agree. I think the reason Sony alpha cameras that come with SLOG got a bad wrap with colors and tones is because pro level features and software became available to consumers and they just don’t know wtf they’re doing-myself included. Once I really focused and learned how to properly expose SLOG and when it is used best, along with learning good grading techniques-it’s amazing what you can get out of 8 but footage like I am with my a6500. But it takes patience and skill during production and in post. This is great, it shows that you can get amazing results with these song alphas. It will never compare to Alexa and the like but it’s still amazing if you know what you’re doing
