@@vlisdero Yes, it should stick wonce the water dries. Make sure the windows are clean before you try to apply the bubblewrap. The air pockets in the bubbles is what allows the bubblewrap to be an insulator. If you have direct sun light hitting the windows, it wont work as well but you will still reap some benefits.

When I lived in Anchorage, keeping warm was a challenge. I lived in a 20 X 20 house that was moved to some land in Nunaka Valley from 3rd Ave. after the Good Friday quake. Even though it had double panes on some windows, frost still would build up on the inside of the glass. The front door, however, was a real problem as cold air (it could get to 50 below in the valley) would seep all around the door. My youngest was out of diapers, but because most of the flannel they were made from was still good, I had saved them for rags. I would put several in a pail of water, very slightly wring them and place them around the crack in the door where they would instantly freeze. Voila! It was an air tight seal. Because there was only that thin line of ice holding them, I hadn't blocked the entrance at all if we needed to get out fast.

I started using bubble wrap in my walk out basement door last year and it helped a lot. I use the same type of tape as the one used to winterize windows. When cold season ended, I just labeled where each piece belonged so I could reuse them. The basement also has two wall that are made of clear glass bricks to allow a lot of light in. I attached the bubble wraps to those and taped wide ribbon on top so instead of removing them I just roll them up by hand and tie them with the ribbon, to keep them out of the way for the warm season (7 cold months and 5 warm, if lucky, were I live.) I need to replace my front door which is 100 years old and hand carved because it lets a lot of air in, so I use wrap there today, If someone doesn't like my "door decoration" too bad because it made a huge difference with just 1/2 hour of work. I will replace it once I pay off the house in less than 2 year, now all extra money goes to the mortgage, the door can wait two more winters. My next project is cover the small basement bathroom's two walls that are next to the ground to keep the cold cement from cooling off the rest of that area. But for that I'm using the bubble wrap that come covered with Mylar film. $59 plus tax, plus adhesive is all that it cost to cover both walls. I'm so glad I found out about that use for bubble wrap.

Thanks for sharing your creative ideas for bubble wrap, and the clever use of it as a roll up shade. Perhaps you can find some weather stripping to go around your door. Getting a good seal around the edges would help you keep cold out. I used Styrofoam panels with silver reflective on one side to fill in the panels on my garage door for insulation. That helped a lot, too.

I am from central Europe (the Czech Republic) and we sometimes have really cold winters here. Sometimes it is minus 35 degrees Celsius (well, not in past 5 or 7 years - they are only like minus 20 degrees maximum). And 95% of all houses are made of bricks and most of them have extra insulation put on the bricks. It can save you a lot of money spent on heating. Then we have windows that have 3 panes of glass (I mean 3 layers of glass). It is a standard. The old standard was 2 layers of glass and some older houses still have just 2 layers, but new houses have 3 layers. Also, most old window frames are replaced by plastic frames that are tighter. Or at least by new wood frames that are a bit more breathable. As for entrance doors, it is a standard that all houses have a small hall, kind of a mud room, where you take off your shoes and change into your slippers (it is considered rude to wear shoes indoors), and you also leave your coat there. Then there is another door that leads to a hallway from which there are more doors leading to the rest of the rooms - the living room, the kitchen etc. We never have entrance doors leading right to our living rooms or any other rooms. You first enter a mud room, then a hallway and then you get into a real room. This prevents cold air from getting into any of the rooms.
@AlaskaGranny

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, and helping to educate us about your country and lifestyle. It sounds like your entryway is similar to what many homes in Alaska have. We call them Arctic Entryways. Not all homes have them, but they work great.
@juliejay5436

That is extremely clever. I like that a lot. And the act of taking off your shoes when you enter a house should be universal, not because it's rude to keep shoes on, but because it's not hygienic to drag dirt and mud all over the house.

That's good stuff too. It comes in a few colors. I used it around windows. I use the thumb gum around electrical outlets, I plug around the holes where electrical or cable wires enter the house, behind our spigot, & inside around the blower motor housing. It helps prevent movement of cold air in the house & under the house, decreasing the chance of frozen pipes. Our pipes are insulated, but every little bit helps. Also, go around to all your sinks and seal under the flange plates where the pipes come up. We used waterproof clear silicone caulk. Our electricity bill savings has been the reward. All the best!

There are small containers that contain a desiccant, which is a substance that absorbs moisture (sometimes blue in color). Once the moisture is absorbed (indicated by the color now turning pink), it can be regenerated by heating the substance to drive off the moisture. Desiccant can be found in hardware store, some supermarkets and definitely online.

Nope, a spritz of water > apply bubble wrap bubble side against the window = aaah, much better. Mildew hasn't been a problem yet in USDA zone 7. No tape necessary. The only thing is in my house it's the channels the double-hung windows slide up and down in that are major cold-leakers. I use the bubble wrap similar to this smile.amazon.com/BUBBLE-ROLL-CUSHIONING-WRAPLARGE-BUBBLES/dp/B00KY10YWO. Then use the clear window film over the whole window = now there's no air leaking in or out. Also a little quieter inside.

Amazing tips!!! And friends, you'd be amazed at how strong the drafts are inside your walls. Sometimes brick can even be worse because the drafts are trapped inside the building as the building doesn't breathe like plaster or wood. I am thrilled about the outlet covers because my neighbors SMOKE which flows through the spaces between the walls and into my apartment. Also, somehow the plastic coating around the wires loves to pick up smoke odor then the wires are warmed when the electricity is in use. Basically if it' colder behind your walls than in your rooms you will have cold air pressure. Thanks again, great tips!!!

Do you mean put the door sweeper on both sides of the door? I think if you put one on the outside it would get caught up in the threshold of the door when you open and close it. If it is a door to the garage, perhaps. Look over your door, and see if there are places it would get caught. Maybe tape it on temporarily, and try it a few times. Don't install it with the adhesive strip until you check it out a few times.

Everyone doesn't know all the things they need to do, no matter where they live. Yes, the things to do are easy, but we all need to learn them somewhere, sometime in life. You are fortunate to have learned these already. Thanks for watching.

Agreed, so many people are clueless about doing the simplest things in their homes. These types of videos are especially great for those homeowners.

Child proof socket plugs on outside walls. If you use the foam outlet gaskets, keep the punchouts and put them on the prongs of the socket plugs.

Maybe the squeezy pouches are for people who aren’t preppers, and they just want something they can throw away. Not a good trend for those of us who are trying to stock up.

Do you mean the pillow packs they use now instead of bubble wrap? I use those on my windows, too.

Sorry, I was actually responding to a different video you posted. 🤪 In one of your videos you were talking about some pouches they are now putting food in, and you were saying they wouldn’t be good for the long term. I was thinking some people might like the idea of being able to eat the food and then throw the pouch away, but that packaging wouldn’t help a prepper.

Would this help keeping air conditioning in?

I think it works better for cold, because the temperature difference between inside at 68 degrees and outside of -10 degrees is so great. I think the summer heat is better blocked with reflective materials that keep the sun outside. I put up the windshield covers on some of my inside windows to block light, and reflect heat. You can try keeping cool with bubble wrap, and let me know how it works for you. Thanks for watching.

DON'T put anything reflective in your double pane windows...you will ruin the seal with the heat buildup!!
@A10TOES

Yes, it works for AC in summer, just don't use on double paned windows, or windows that have that "gas" between the panes.

that is such a great idea! if taped together well, there wouldnt be any breaks/gaps and it could be pulled out in one piece when you have to go outside.

In the UK we used to have gas fires with a constant open flue to the chimney, many people never realised they were getting cold through the gas fire when they turned it off ! loooooooool

You often find that the draught excluder tape on bottom of door does not hold properly and will come loose. A few screws in pre-drilled holes usually does the trick.
