I invite you to explore the next kilometers of the Lebanese Trail. We will cross mountain rivers again, admire wonderful views and the first cedars.
Lebanese Trail day 6
Stage: Kfar Bebnine - Bqaa Safrin
Daily distance: 20km
Total: 113km
Today started with a wonderful sunrise. Even though morale was good, it skyrocketed. After breakfast and a warm farewell to my benefactors, we set off on the trail. When leaving the village, there were navigation problems. However, we managed to overcome them and we started the arduous climb. There weren't many climbs today, about 850m.
After a few kilometers of climbing, a beautifully snow-covered mountain appeared in front of us. We also started hiking through several centimeters of snow. Here again there were navigation problems because the snow covered most of the signs painted on the stones. We finally managed to get out of this little predicament and when we crossed the cold, rushing stream, we reached a comfortable road. The further hike was pure pleasure. We walked along the rock walkway to the village of Bqaa Sifrine. There, out of necessity, I decided to look for accommodation. After all, you need to do some shopping for the dog and yourself. If we spent the night in the mountains today, we wouldn't have anything to eat 😅
We didn't pass any shops from Qoubaiyat and the provisions we got in the morning might not have been enough. Besides, Habcia doesn't eat apples 😁 I spotted a veterinary store on the map, so we left the trail and entered the town. I managed to quickly find accommodation, but unfortunately the store was closed today. Friday is like Sunday here and only some grocery stores were open. So I bought the necessary things and we returned to our accommodation. A delicious dinner was waiting for us there.
Now I'm sitting with the hosts and we're trying to talk 😁
Lebanese Trail day 7
Stage: Bqaa Safrin - Ehden
Daily distance: 35km
Total: 148km
We set off on the trail at 9 a.m. after a delicious breakfast. The trail was going up from the very beginning so you could warm up 😀
After about 5 kilometers, we reached the remains of a settlement whose history dates back to times before the Roman period. Next, the trail led us to the bottom of the valley where we could see the ruins of the temple. We also reached a small cave and after crossing the stream we started climbing up again. Snow-capped peaks loomed in front of us, and behind us we could sometimes see the Mediterranean Sea.
At some point, my companion began to show signs of fatigue. So I stopped and Habcia immediately fell asleep. After 2-3 kilometers I had to stop again because the dog was getting really weak on the ascents. I took the canned food out of my backpack and fed it to the dog. After she ate, she fell asleep again. I decided we wouldn't go far today. I didn't want to finish the dog off. However, when we entered the snow-covered slope, Habcia went crazy. She started running in the snow and going crazy 😀 You can see that she likes snow very much.
At one point I saw three small huts in the distance. I walked up to them to see if they were open. Unfortunately...
I was looking for the door key but to no avail. So we moved on. On the softened trail, I was literally sliding down the mud. Eventually the path became rocky and we entered the nature reserve. I finally got to see the Cedars of Lebanon. We walked through the entire reserve and completed the entire leg of the trail. Since it was still early and Habcia had new strength, we went further. The trail climbed up again and after a few kilometers it dropped significantly. We descended to Edhen in the dark. The city lights twinkled in front of us and snow-capped peaks were visible beyond. We were downtown before 9 p.m. Time to find a place to stay. The hotel recommended by the Lebanese Trail organization turned out to be closed. So I sat on a bench and started calling other hotels, of which there are many in the town. Unfortunately, the answer was the same everywhere: no places. But in the end it worked. The passer-by's friend had a room to rent. There is still the matter of Habcia. They really don't like dogs here. However, I convinced the owner that the dog would sleep on the balcony. So he agreed, so we have a place to stay. Of course, Habcia is sleeping inside 😅
I did a little shopping, fed the dog and we rested before another day of hiking.
