I’m glad there is this discussion on Registration lines! This is a bit of a complex topic and you hit some valuable points such as ID checks and registering minors. At FWA, we do mail out badges but they still need to be activated on-site to address some of these concerns. This year, we had 15 registration stations and at times, that wasn’t enough…. With Cons expanding so rapidly, we are needing to find new strategies for event management and many of us see what works and doesn’t work at other events. There are so many complications which are unique to each event. Honestly, it is the hard work and dedication of volunteers and staff that make these events work and I’m grateful for everyone who contributes their time to make every event successful.

I agree that mailing badges won't fix the reg line issue only. I think giving attendees multiple ways to get their badge is a good idea. I think badges should be mailed to US only attendees as that is the vast majority of attendees for US cons. International attendees would still benefit as the pre-reg line would be shorter since many of the US attendees would not have to be in line. This eliminates the possibility of the badges being delayed or lost en route and con staff don't have deal with international shipping processes. Otakon, an anime con with 42K attendance does this. One idea that I suggested to AC on the feedback survey is to open pre-reg on Wednesday evening for a few hours in the Westin to handle attendees arriving on Wednesday or earlier. That will help shorten the pre-reg lines on Thursday. They could do it the Allegheny or Pennsylvania ballrooms. At some point the big cons are going to have stop personalizing badges. This slows down badge distribution as either badge needs to be printed or a runner has to fetch it. Having a stack of standardize badges for each registration tier that the ID checker can quickly give out would save time. FWA already does with their wristbands and this is standard for badge pickup at large anime and pop culture cons. My local pop culture con, Awesome Con, works with retail stores in the area to sell badges.I don't see furry being that much into the mainstream for this to viable anytime soon, if ever, but it I just wanted mentioned it as it one of the ways large cons handle badge distribution.

I’ve only been to Fan Expo/Comic Con in Denver, which can have over 100,000 attendees! I’ve done badge pickup Friday or Saturday morning the day of the con, and I’ve also done panel badge pickups. What they use is a QR code. You pull up your confirmation on your phone with the code, the line managers scan and confirm, and then you grab your badge. I’ve never waited longer than 1-2 hours, so maybe something like that could work? Or have a mail badge option that’s a higher cost, so folks with accessibility issues or in the states and get it if they want. Maybe that could work?

Hey friend i like the new format. But i have a few suggestions. The intro is too long and the music mix makes it jarring to get through. Maybe take 3sec off of the white text and have the music fade and mix better with your voice. Second thing 😇 try setting up the “topic of the day” up before jumping right into it. At first I thought you were hitting me with a coffee ad right off the bat… normally I would have left immediately, but since I really like your stuff I stayed and decided to make this comment instead ❤

For me yes, they seemed to have exploded in popularity, especially amongst fursuiters, about a year and a half ago, at least in my experience!
