I think this is what your test told me my taste was. I love Edwardian/Victorian, Cottage core, & 40s-60s style things. I have a pretty good idea of how to have what I want without things getting too pricey because I either thrifted, made, or was given much of what I own. But your videos really help me a lot not to look too busy & helps me balance my tastes with my boyfriend’s

I think I'm eclectic cuz I love Craftsman (Arts & Crafts style), yet my Italian leather sofa in camel is Modern and I love Rustic casegoods. Then my bedroom is a whole different genre, Bohemian n Cali Coastal. I could never just pick one; I would get bored too fast n feel pidgeon holed n too cookie cutter. Yes, I too suffer from my interior design passion.

Great vid! I’m modern, classic and masculine. I’m striving for that European vibe even though I don’t have wall moulding or herringbone floors. Your advice about shopping too much is spot on for me. The goal for 2022 is to be more sustainable and shop less. I’m honing in what I really need which is a rug for the primary bedroom and a mirror. Thanks!

Took the style quiz , eclectic. How do you make it work in context of place and the architecture specially if it's a rental . Interested in your Paris Texas concept. My primary style is boho (leaning toward dark Spanish Colonial furniture and folk art), MCM-brutalist (secondary) and Hollywood regency (terciary). I live in Scandinavia. I've switched the order to make sourcing possible. Ikea basics in dark brown colorways (1), Churrigueresque+norwegian folk art (2) and deco lighting & brass accessories (3)

This was so helpful! I aspire to be eclectic, but most of my furniture is inherited and almost exclusively traditional/transitional. As I add new items, I try to incorporate pieces that will break it up, but have been struggling to feel confident in those decisions. This has given some really great direction so I can feel like even though I'm buying things slowly, I'm still heading towards a cohesive whole! I'm going for traditional, boho, something. Figuring out what style #3 is will probebly help!

According to your style quiz, I'm eclectic and I'm not surprised. It has finally hit me that I can really like various styles, but that doesn't mean I have to include it in my own home. I can love and appreciate it over there .... but not necessarily in my home. In my living room now, I have touches of chinoiserie, transitional, traditional, and those 70s colored glass lamps that light up in the base- but I'm so tempted to scrap it all and go with some sort of light, feminine, comfy, scandi - if that even has a name/category. I think I'd love that. This is getting expensive, though. I need to get it figured out and stop changing up things so much.

Baiyina, I may have missed this, but have you let your landlord know you're an interior designer with a YT channel? Maybe they'd let you put up some crown and picture moulding. I've done poly (it's kinda like a foam board) moulding before and it's great and affordable. Maybe some marble and a fussy mantle on your FP (which you can make out of the same material)? Just thinking how you can get that Parisian architectural base to work off of.

I like eclectic but supreme comfort for me is extremely important since I need lax-z boy couch with a high back for arthritic spine support. It works in my living space, and I still have beautiful paintings and other eclectic touches. Also, many older European homes don’t follow any specific design. There are unique antiques, travel memorabilia, antique rugs and furniture. It looks like items were put there over many years if not centuries. I like the old Manor style also.

I agree about comfort. I had a wreck in high school that messed up my knees. Years later I struggle to get up off a low couch, so I got a la-z-boy sofa. Don’t really care if it’s a “mistake”. LOL I think you should do whatever makes you happy and comfortable in YOUR own home. I didn’t think eclectic was constrained by any rules?

I’m eclectic. So was my mother and her combinations in her home used to drive me crazy with a few exceptions. Now I’m driving myself crazy. I do think I have my big pieces working now, but I’m frustrated about pattern and color mixing. Don’t like it unless it really works. It works in pictures but in person that same combo drives me crazy.

My style is eclectic because of where I live and have lived and it was not intentional. Originally from Manhattan, so for me it was traditional. French provincial and other mahogany furniture. When I moved to beachy Cape Cod, I now loved wicker and driftwood but I was not about to give up my beloved NYC furniture so I now added a little beachy. Next I wanted some modern elements to balance the other two. And so my eclectic house truly evolved over decades adding garden sculptures indoors. Walls are just about bare except for a couple of hanging scrolls from trips to Japan and China. Lastly, buddhas for my spiritual practice and uncluttered spaces...some plants and always fresh flowers.

Okay. They're coming out with decorating reality shows. What I would love to watch is an open minded decorator. Go into a real person's house and help them redecorate with what they already have. Some program should think of this and snap you up. I love eclectic. Keep thinking I would be addicted to that programing. You got it. Wish I knew who to contact about this reality TV show. Hand me downs, traded pieces, Goodwill redo's, make do's, side of the road finds. I love magic. Wish I could share pictures. You have the magic, run with it.

I'd also add to be aware of the shapes of furniture. The majority of my furniture in my lounge is rectangular. I intentionally broke it up with circular shaped furniture such as an ottomon, side tables and floor lamps with circular heads, curved/cylinder vases.

Great video, Baiyina! Finding the ideal things you need does take time & sometimes it feels like I’m never going to get there. Just have to be patient & lucky. The key thing is not to make hasty decisions on big ticket items or buy small stuff that will do for now. Like you, I’m fond of Parisienne interiors with a sophisticated classic/transitional twist. I’d like to do glam but fear it looking tacky.

You totally nailed it with this one! I took your quiz, and you said modern eclectic with me. I absolutely believe that. While watching your video, I really thought about the three types of styles that I have, and it really did come down to three different styles for me. Mid century modern, Japanese/Asian influence, would not quite call it Japandi, and Believe it or not some cottage core/granny chic. The reason I threw that one in is that I’ve got a few tea pots on display, and I have a tendency to absolutely love pillows, and I’ve got a few kind of homemade looking floral pillows on my bed. I also have a small table made by my great grandfather, and A floor vase made by my great grandmother probably in the 1910s. I feel like it works together all pretty well.

I started out all vintage mid century when I moved into a small 1960's ranch but over time I felt like it didn't look homey so I started adding more traditional pieces and not so many crazy abstracts.
