I just read on the website of the Church of England this wise statement: “The Irish language is an important part of the heritage of the Church of England. It was, after all, Irish speaking monks in Lindisfarne and beyond who played a central role in establishing the Church in what is now England.”

Why do you call him a "monk" like a Roman Catholic celibate? The early Celtic saints differed from Rome in practice, allowing clergy to marry, resting on the Saturday Sabbath and remembering the crucifixion on the actual Biblical date of Passover as opposed to the Roman "Easter" which the Irish never accepted even some 300 years after its ratification at the Council of Nicea in 325. This ended in 664 at the Synod of Whitby, England, when aoswy King of Northumbria was swayed by the clever arguments of Roman clergy to accept the new "Easter" named after the spring goddess Eostre/Eastre, whilst the Irish missionaries under Colman retreated to the remote isles of Iona and Lindisfarne while the whole of Britain turned Roman church-wise, although the Celts held out in pockets until the 12th century in Tara, Ireland, after which the Celtic Church was taken over by the Catholics. Ireland was never conquered by Rome militarily, but it did become Roman through the Church! 🙃 ☘ However, Patrick, Columba & Colman would never accept their ways today.
