3 lacrosse footwork drills that will help with your lateral movement (moving Left to Right) helping you with your ' Stop N Go'
These drills all involve lateral movement which means left to right. A lot of players are pretty fast when running in a straight line but they start having trouble when they have to stop and go.
These 3 progressive drills will really develop the motor pattern of lateral movement.
Drill #1 - 1-2 Stick and Hold
You need to focus on two really important things when doing these drills. When you want to go to the right you are not reaching with your right leg but instead you push off with your left foot. So in other words you are ‘pushing the turf’ away with your foot. The second thing to pay attention to is when you stop, when you decelerate and stop you will be on one leg and butt, back and chest are up. That is how you want to land.
Drill #2 - 1-2 Stick Continuous
This drill is progressive and continuous so there will be no hold. When you go to change direction your hips are low, you will drop your hips towards the ground and you are really going to push that foot through the turf. If you want to go right you really are driving that left foot through the turf. If you wanted to go left you are
driving that right foot through the turf.
Drill #3 - Speed Skater
I think a lot of you have probably heard of this drill or have done it before. But again these 3 drills are a progression so after you master the (1-2 Stick and Hold) and the (1-2 Stick Continuous) you're going to move on to a speed skater. This is so great because it helps your dodging. This will also help you when you're shooting and really learning how to shift your weight left to right.
