Great video, as usual! Ry Cooder's playing would be a fine subject too.

I love Mark's playing. I own a red Strat because of him! As far as the second and third licks, I would say it's less that he's playing outside and more that he's playing the changes. That's a big part of decoding Knopfler, realizing that he plays the changes. That's a big part of what makes him so melodic.

Knopler is a beautiful player with graceful nuances only rivaled by Beck imho. As always 🍺’ski awesome material!🤘

By using his fingers, Mark gets some great snaps & pops in his playing

I always thought he played with a compressor to get some of those snap sounding artifacts...but I guess it’s all in the skin against steel.

Another great lesson David, however , must draw your attention to the Jeff Beck album cover on your wall, one of my favorite albums. That tour was my first introduction to Simon Phillips.

Great lesson. Mark Knopfler is definitely one of the greats and has a style all his own. Love that strat. What is the story on it? The wear marks look interesting. Keep up the great work.

If you like finger style on electric, check out James Mankey from Concrete Blonde. Way underrated. Also, of course, Jared James Nichols. 🤘🏻

i think mark knopfler used the stratocaster t its full potential....great tone and feel in his play...so ironic that the music media and press were not "interested" in dire straight's music.at the time...but even without the internet they got their (due) success...i stiil like to listen (and play) their songs....;-)

Knopfler and SRV for me stand head and shoulders above all the rest. Highlight moments (for me) from Dire Straits work are Tunnel of Love, Telegraph Road, Brothers in Arms, Theme from Local Hero and You and Your Friend i could go on, as i love all thier songs. I should also say that the accoustic on Romeo and Julliet is the sweatest guitar sound ever.
