The Alder male catkins remind me of what was called "Indian Corn". It was multicolored corn and had small cobs.

You do NOT want to use (full rolling) boiling water (200-212F) for any wild teas. That brings out the worst tastes. Far better to use a "small boil" which is when small bubbles form on the sides but are not yet floating to the surface. (160-175F.) - Cheers!
