You can also get mold from leaving the wet, used K cup in place. I usually not only remove the K cup, but leave the lid open for a little while for it to air dry after my last use for the day.

I have used exclusively distilled water in my k-compact, so I would never have to worry about descaling or contaminants. Haven't had any problems, going on 2 years. Coffee tastes fine. My hypothesis is that they are (a) upselling their descale solution or (b) hoping your scaled-up machine will wear out as soon as faster so you throw it out and buy a new one! I will never stop using distilled water.

This is my second Keurig Coffee Brewer. kzitem.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first one lasted 6 years. It worked beautifully until the day it didn't. It was hard to go back to the drip coffee for a couple of days while I waited on my Keurig to get here. There is a huge difference in the taste. Keurig makes a really good cup of coffee. This new one is a little different from my old one. I find putting the water filter in was easier than on the old one. Attaching the water reservoir was also a little different but once I figured it out, it too was easier. This new one has the auto off feature but is not programmable like the old one. Only three cup sizes instead of four. The odd thing for me was how much lighter in weight this one is compared to my old one. More plastic and much less metal in the construction of this one. The price is so much less than the original Keurig that I bought and the coffee tastes the same so all in all I am satisfied.

Tip I learned the hard way: Don’t walk away from your machine after you hit the button to start. Remain close to the machine watching and listening until the brew is finished. If it makes a weird noise or starts spraying coffee you can shut it off before it gets worse. I once went down in the basement to check on the laundry and when I got back up to the kitchen I was confronted with a horrible mess from an exploded cup. Took a long time to clean up. And also, press the pod straight down to pierce the bottom needle before you close the lid to pierce the top. And clean the needles frequently with a paperclip.

Never remove tank when on cycle. It will cause it to power off permanently, UNTIL; you reset the thermostat attached to the heating coil. Must be taken apart and then between the two wires is a small hole. I used a dental tool and you can FEEL the button reset. Plug in and power on for one second and unplug immediately. Then reassemble. Works fine again. Don't pull a Mark. Leave tank alone when ON.

My experience: Removing the water reservoir, thus stopping the flow of water, while it’s brewing risks overheating and popping the breaker on the water heater, killing power to the unit. Resetting the breaker requires disassembly. I’ve done mine a couple times (one due to fiddling with the reservoir and another during a protracted descaling session when it overheated) luckily, mine didn’t suffer any permanent damage as the breaker did it’s job. Taught me a lesson, too. 😕

Thanks JAD....I recently discovered after having Dunkin pods pressurize and block the lower needle as well as force coffee grounds out of pod and into the mug that the grind is very fine. So started to use the strong brew button which slows the pump enough to not over pressurize the pod. Any other K cups did not do this so that is my deduction. It works well with the Dunkin pods. Also, it does seem to be a good idea to puncture the bottom of pod before closing lid to start the brew. The convenience of the Keurig makes it worthwhile to keep in good order with a little maintenance.

It was just over a year old, and the decalcify notice came on. To be sure I was doing it correctly, I found your instruction video. After I made sure that the water and vinegar mix was right, I set the water reservoir beside the machine, then proceeded to watch more of the video. I don’t know WHAT the heck I was thinking, but I pushed the two buttons (12 and 8 oz) at the same time as directed, and to my shock I noticed the reservoir still sitting next to the machine! Immediately I heard the machine start so I grabbed the reservoir and placed in the base, but then everything stopped. I tried several different things to get it back, but to no avail. Permanently broken, I thought I would post this comment to warn others to be careful and PAY ATTENTION to what their doing so they don’t have the same experience. P.S. We’re done “getting a new one”. 4 Keurig’s in 10 years and never again. Each time one malfunctions we pull the old Cuisinart drip coffee maker out and it works fine after being in storage for a couple of years. The last Keurig didn’t last 3 months. Bought it for my wife for Christmas. Keurig offered to replace it and I told them no thanks…. Environmentally unfriendly, needs to be cared for like a dialysis machine and when it malfunctions you have to spend hours getting it working again if your lucky. I forgot to mention that we did depart from Keurig and purchased a Cuisinart dual coffee maker. Drip and K-Cup. The K-Cup side failed after 6 months and the drip side is still working after 3 years. Why did the world decide this was a better idea for making coffee? Landfills are filled with spent K-Cups and broken Keurig coffee makers.

I have been using distilled water for ten years because my city water has algae, minerals and mold in it. My Keurig works perfect. Coffee tastes great. The reason distilled water is not recommended is that there are electric probes inside the internal water tank that measure the water levels for 6, 8 or 10 oz. of water. I have no problems and my K has never gotten gunked up.

Ok so we did a descaling and several rinse cycles but the light never went out. Anyway more importantly ! It stopped pulling water up to to the head , I could hear it working but no water. I turned the machine off tipped it upside down and shook it as suggested and it ran for two cycles. Finally after taking it apart to see if a hose was loose I found the problem. At the top of the machine right next to the kcup holder there’s a rubber nipple that contacts the top of the handle when you bring it down and makes a seal to draw the water up. So gently clean and lift up the rubber nipple .

One thing I just learned today as my machine stopped working and i assumed it was clogged and i tried everything to unclog the needle and still it would not work. Is that the bottom needle part can be lifted out. Then you twist it (it comes apart in 2 pieces.) and you use a paper clip to clean the holes in the needle. And that fixed it. I almost threw it into the garbage! Plus another thing I now do is always run a clean water cycle after each coffee run. I know that's probable over doing it but I drink k-cup teas and teas clog the needles faster.

I have a K Supreme with a similar tank to the one on the left in this video. I refill it by using a large cup rather than removing the tank. I was using water from my refrigerator water dispenser since it was filtered. Eventually one day I had water leaking. The plastic water tank had a bunch of cracks where the bottom of the handle meets the tank wall. Keurig sent another no charge and had no suggestions what happened. Well it happened again. I figured out it must be thermal shock from cold refrigerator water (maybe 40-45 degrees) when I poured water from the cup into the tank. Since using warmer regular tap water it hasn't happened.

There is a way to reset the thermal fuse if it overheats by removing the tank mid brew or running out of water during a descale. It requires taking the machine apart and reseting the fuse with a needle or pin.

Hi, I just thought of something. Really good cause I'm having problems with mine as well. But anyway, Hey, guess what stopped buying the K cup machine? Just buy a regular coffee Maker. That worked just fine. Oh I should not forget to mention. They also cost less coffee machines.

Hey dad I had my keurig shut down on me two times once when i was in another room filling the tank and someone used it not knowing the water tank was missing .. anyway it tripped of on the internal overload inside to protect the unit from overheating .... the fix is to take unit apart (wish i took picts) there is a small disc about quarter size and there is a small hole in the middle of the disc , you need to use a paperclip to push inside the hole to reset this overload. if your lucky that will do the trick. put the unit back together and plug it in it worked both times. thanks for you helpful tips on the cleaning of the unit. I bought my first Keurig Mini when they came on the market and it lasted 10 years. My second one lasted 4 years, the next one lasted 3 years. I cleaned and maintained them regularly. I just bought a new one and it if doesn't last 10 years I won't be buying another Keurig.

it's also a good idea to plug your Keurig into a properly rated surge suppressor. there is one solitary MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) "protecting" the PCB (circuit board), one good surge, will kill the MOV rendering the Keurig useless.

I have the third one on your left, it died second year of use, done regular cleaning I also used their water filters. I’m now using my older one, it’s trouble free. When it dies I’ll either get a knockoff or use just my twelve cup only.My wife uses a clear Pyrex coffee pot that you put on your stove burner, low setting. It takes longer but better tasting coffee except campfire. You’re talking about don’t remove the water reservoir during brewing, that common sense. When I put in a K-cup pod I pull down the lever push brew button, walk away from it until finished. I also run one or two cycles of just water also🙂🙂. Some of those Keurig pots are ridiculously priced. Which makes me 🤔

When i look up online a couple years ago on what water is best to use to make coffee in my coffee maker and it said distilled water so I use distilled water for a while and that's what was recommended as best to make your coffee taste great. Now I've stopped in the last 8 to 10 months because I just didn't want to keep wasting the money and I heard that the minerals in the water from your TAP make coffee taste better so I don't use it anymore but my old Keurig did break down and I was using distilled water on it for a while so I don't know if that's what happened but it makes me mad that many sites that I looked at said distilled water and now this is a couple years ago as I said

Using distilled water impedes the bloom of the coffee and you'll lose flavor extraction. If you're using it and wonder why your coffee is always weak or why you're having to use so much more coffee, that's your reason. Edit: Also pro tip! Push down and puncture the bottom of the K-cup first, then close the lid and puncture the top. You can impart stress on the K-cup when you put it in and puncture it both top and bottom at once and that can sometimes lead to a failed brew, or grounds in the brew. Puncturing the bottom first ensures a strong seal when the lid is closed.

Just a fyi. I have a Keurig Supreme and someone turned it on without water and it completely shut down, no power. You can open up the unit and at the top of the heating element is the thermostat (not sure on different models) in the center of the thermostat is a small hole and if you unfold a paper clip and push inside the hole it will reset the thermostat and the unit will power on as normal. You are right about the tank and water, it doesn't take much for the thermostat to overheat and shut down.

Distilled water is used in C-PAP machines. The reason given for this use is to prevent mineral deposits forming in the C-PAP water tubing. We distill our tap water and see lots of gunk left in water pot of the distiller. This gunk is mostly what the city adds to the water it supplies to the residents. City water is only as pure as federal guidelines require.

Store bought distilled water also has no added minerals, so once it is in your body, it draws minerals out of your body to equalize with the water already in your body before you pee it out so it's also unhealthy

if you use distilled water the electrodes can tell there is water in it. since it has basically no conductivity. a tiny bit of salt will solve it

I have had three machines and the one thing that broke Mine was a dumb brother who would not pay attention and didn’t use the refillable basket correctly and broke my needle. Of course he denied it and said he didn’t do it but we were out of town for 12 days and he ran out of coffee pods and tried to do it himself. I had to buy a new one and I got the slim one and I love it. The best thing I did was get the filters And use them

Think about distilled water. It's pure water without minerals. It makes terrible tasting coffee, but it can't hurt anything in there. It's a heating element, distilled water, keeps it clean. I just destroyed my new Keurig Duo because of the minerals. It said to descale, I ran the solution through the cup side, and it stopped cleaning. I called Keurig, and they sent me a new one. I cut the old one apart it was plugged with minerals. All the clear tubing was filled with white powder. Now I descale every week. Keurigs are not for people who drink 4 pots a day and 2 cups

After my big Kirug broke, I purchaed a mini. The mini ended up in recycling with a month. The second mini is just as bad but I could coax a cup of coffee from the machine. I've purchased a relatively cheap old time coffee maker, grind my beans, and get a much better cup of coffee. No muss no fuss and no surprises. The minis truly sukk.

I didn’t read through all the comments but another thing you shouldn’t do is just place a new pod in and close the lid. You should place a new pod in and then manually push it down until the bottom needle pictures and THEN close the lid. The pods are vacuum packed and when you just place a pod and close the lid, when the needles puncture the vacuum can draw some of the grinds into the needles and can clog after awhile. I’ve been doing that for years and never had a clogged needle. I got this info straight from KEURIG

These are all excellent observations. The clogged PIN - I thought it was the lower one. I think it is more that just a empty hold - so a pipe cleaner is maybe not the answer.

Wouldn’t have a Keurig if you gave me one, expensive product, many times more expensive per cup than standard drip. I use an Oster with #4 funnel style filters, I can make 1 cup or 12 and it tastes the same, saves coffee and probably cost 1/5th what a Keurig costs. Been using tap water for, well, for ever, just have to run some 1/2 water half vinegar or nitric acid through it once a year to de scale. I suppose their great for some people, ones that maybe drink one cup every now and then, or like to experiment with different flavors. But that’s not me, I drink 2-3 large cups, 6 cups fill mark every morning, and I don’t have to wait for the next cup. And I’m not filling landfills with K cups and broke Keurigs, I recycle my grounds in the compost or flower beds.

It is a major design flaw if a slight disruption from real world use results in permanent damage. Tipping, knocking, flawed seating mechanisms, etc should be factored in.

I recently bought my Keurig K classic coffee maker. I bought it because my job has one and I thought that it would be a great way to make coffee faster. I am wondering if anyone has complained about the screws in the reservoir tank. It seems like adding the water, that then becomes HOT, will mix with the metals in the screws. Am sure that the filter that clips on, will not stop the water from touching the metal screws. I will be returning the product and getting my money back because I do not want to drink any metals materials into my body. If you have a solution, so I can enjoy my new coffee maker, I would appreciate a reply back.

I have the k cup supreme plus. Got it last august. This is my 3rd 😊Keurig in many years. I’ve never had a problem before. I have been on the phone at least 5 times in the last month because It doesn’t work correctly. I finally ask them to send me a new one. I have done every thing they have suggested including descaling 3 times and it will only brew the smaller amounts 8 oz at the most. They had me stop using the water filter in the tank, don’t understand that. If I ask for 10 or 12 I get 2 or 3. Keurig was easy to work with. There are a few hoops to jump thru for getting a new one. I finally negotiated the hoops with Amazon and Keurig’s help. I got an email saying I would be receiving a new one. I hope this works ok. Might have to go to the no frills model.

The Keurig K Supreme Models have a history of this problem. The unit can overheat and trip the thermostat on the inside of the machine. I made a video on how to open up your Keurig and reset the thermostat with a paperclip. But it requires you to open it up. This is a link to the video kzitem.info/news/bejne/qpp7xWiEgoN2paQ If this does not fix the problem or you are not able to open it up, I would call Keurig 866-901-2739, They are aware of this problem and should replace you unit free of charge. Lot of other viewers have had this same problem during a descale the machine has to run a lot of cycles to run the solution through the machine then the rinse cycles. It is a good idea in the future to let the machine sit for 30 min before you start the rinse cycle, but you have to make sure the machine stays in descale mode or it will not turn you light out at the end of the rinse. Also some K Supreme the low water light does not come on and you might run the machine dry which can also cause the thermostat to trip. In the case of the low water light not coming on you have to stop the process and start all over, but this time you can just use water on both the first part and rinse cycle. The machine has to see the low water light come on for the logic in the descale mode to complete and turn the light off.
