I am very impressed good sir! It must have been quite an adventure of a lifetime! I was going to ask about aggressive dogs but I see someone else in another post already mentioned it. I see enough dogs just biking around my own twn trying to chase me. Found your video here while researching hiking trails. Have you ever heard of the East Coast Greenway? It might be a great second adventure for you. Thumbs up!👍

It can be annoying when dogs give chase, it can be fun as well. I had a dog somewhere in Kansas that run with me for a few miles. It didn’t show any aggressive behaviour and didn’t run to close or in front of my bicycle. But I also had the moments where they weren’t so nice. I never had any real incidents, but potentially it can ruin your trip. Just have a plan how to deal with them. I had to look up the East Coast Greenway. Never heard about it. Another one for on the list. Along with the The Great American Rail-Trail when it’s finished.

Incredible journey! How many small towns did you come across? I was hoping to take a trip like this but detoured similar to Charles Kuralt's On the Road series. Do you have advice?
@OutdoorAhead
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, thank you for your reply. The part of the American Discovery Trail I cycled goes through a lot of small towns. Especially the part in the Midwest has a lot of small communities with long stretches of low-populated areas between it. Because the trail follows historic routes like the Santa Fe Trail and old rail roads it brings you in little towns you would otherwise never visit.

Hey my friend I'm getting ready for a trip from la to San Francisco then the ADT trail to illinois...any advice ?
@OutdoorAhead

Hi Logan, I hope you will have a great trip. For preparation I would advice you to get familiar with your gear. I would go training with the full kit and ask myself the question “if item X would break, how would I fix it? Do I have the knowledge and equipment for fixing it or is there a temporary solution until I reach the next town?”. I hope that helps. If you have any more specific question, feel free to ask here or send a message directly.

Hey Craig Warren, thank you. I loaded the trail into my Garmin GPS and I also had the paper turn-by-turn datebooks from the official website. I stared from Denver late April and reached Delaware half July. You can send me a message on social media if you want to know more.

Second question: Why it there snow in the video, but at the same time it seems to be summer time somewhere else?
@OutdoorAhead
Жыл бұрын
I started in the end of spring in Colorado. At that time there was a few days of mild snow up at elevation in the Rocky Mountains. From there on I cycled at much lower elevation and the temperatures were rising towards summer. Therefore I had varying weather during the trip. As a rule of thumb: for every 100 meter you go up in elevation, the temperature drops 1 degree Celsius.

What brand or type of handlebars are those? I’m was looking to getting that same type bar for bikepacking also. Any help would be appreciated!

They are called ‘butterfly handlebars’ or ‘multi position handlebars’. Mine are from KOGA (same brand as the bicycle) and have a foam grip covered with leather.

Hello Brian, I started in Denver, Colorado and took the southern route all the way to Washington DC and from there I cycled to the ocean at Cape Henlopen, Delaware. There is also a northern route between Denver and Elisabethtown, Ohio.

any dangerous animals on the trail? how many tire tubes you had to have
@OutdoorAhead
5 жыл бұрын
Ariel Peretz the only animal I had problems with are aggressive dogs. I had 1 spare inner tube with me and had to switch the frond and back tire half way through the trail, because the back one had a lot of wear on it. Both were almost smooth at the end.

Try to cycle as fast a possible... later on the trail a friend gave me a canister of pepper spray which I used ones (didn’t have enough speed because I was climbing a hill). I came across more (aggressive) dogs from Kentucky on. If you have more questions; feel free to send me a message on social media: Outdoorahead
