Hey everyone! 👋
Today I'm going to show you how to make 3 simple boredom breakers for hamsters.
Enjoy and feel free to let me know if you plan to make any of these. 😄
I feel like I haven't made a DIY video in forever!
The wicker ball pack as mentioned in the video: amzn.to/3MTI6vd
As per usual, here's a random story:
Let me tell you about the time my dog assisted my hamster's escape.
So, for some background, three years ago we were living in our grandparent's house while they were on vacation because we had a water damage at our house.
We couldn't live at our house while the floors were getting replaced and everything....
Moral of the story, if you think the toilet is overflowing, check it. No exceptions.
Anyways, while we were at our grandparent's, I had my hamster at the time, Elfie, in a spare room.
He was in a Crittertrail back then.
In an attempt to make his living space larger (as I couldn't upgrade), I connected his cage via tubes to a large playpen he could use while I was home.
His cage was placed on the floor so it was closer to the playpen.
I always closed the doors to Elfie's room because I didn't want my dog, Honey, to go in there.
Well, the doors at my grandparent's don't close very well lol.
So one day, I was folding laundry in a room next to Elfie's and I see this little white blob waddle across the hall.
It freaked me out!
In top speed, multiple ideas were passing through my head, "there's a rat- no, a mouse?! Wait, I think that's a sock!"
Then suddenly I realized, "THAT'S ELFIE!"
I jumped up and ran over to him to scoop him up.
At my grandparent's, on one side of the upstairs hallway there's a railing where you can see down to the first floor.
It's a big drop if something were to fall down from there.
So basically, if Elfie fell he'd unfortunately have been toast.
That scared me a bunch to think he could have fallen.
But, I picked him up easily and carried him to his cage.
I quickly discovered that the tube system on the left side of his cage was knocked off, leaving an opening.
I always checked those tubes to make sure they were secure.
So I figured they couldn't have just came undone by themselves.
(Needless to say, I reattached them.)
When I told my mom about what had happened, she said she heard Honey bust a door open earlier.
(Our dog likes to bang doors open with her nose lol. She's really good at it 🤣.)
Well, I guess she busted in there and nudged the tubes off Elfie's cage too. 😂
She did a good job freeing him if that's what she meant to do hahah.
I put Elfie's cage on a dresser after that incident.
That was such a funny but scary experience lol.
Seeing Elfie's tiny body waddle across the hall gave me such an adrenaline rush. 😖
That's also the only time I've ever had a hamster escape, and it wasn't even the hamster's fault!
My dog pretty much assisted a prison breakout.
The end.
