Vladimir Riché - great video and advice. I have a pair of tan / walnut oxfords and they look fantastic but I rarely reach for them because they are difficult to pair. White pants work but I don't wear white pants, jeans would work but I only like that look if the shoe is so broken in that it no longer looks formal. If m not a fan of walnut shoes w/ navy or cadet blue suits either. There are so many easier options that simply work better. Live and learn .

Hey fam, thanks for watching! We’ve all been there at some point, I’m sure. One of my very first pair of Brown shoes was tan also. I will make a video on how to wear them but I no longer own tan shoes but I’m looking to buy a pair at some point. And I know what you mean by not wanting to wear brand new Oxfords with denim. That combination definitely looks better if the shoes have some wear and tear. Cheers!

How do I feel about light brown shoes? I think they are beautiful, stunning. So stunning that I'm going to buy a pair and then buy other stuff specifically for the purpose of wearing with them. Matching guide: bespokeunit.com/shoes/trouser-coordination/light-brown-shoes/ Medium brown is also beautiful. Burgandy is also beautiful. Dark brown is boring. Maybe if you need boring colors for a job at a bank or something, but otherwise, what are they for?

On my shoe journey, at first I was really fascinated with light/tan shoes. Really enjoying those bright popping tones. But as time pass, Now i prefer more darker shades of brown even disliking lighter brown shoes as these get too much attention. I hate wearing my shoes and too conscious people looking at it because of the light color. Thanks for this insight.

You make good points but you disregard the weather and the geography. In Los Angeles it is most often warm, very warm, and the culture also tends toward lighter colors and a more stand out presentation. Likewise tan or light brown shoes are a good way in a place like LA to be informal with jeans etc.
@v_r_
4 жыл бұрын
I wholeheartedly disagree, Erick. Weather and geography has 0 to do with the jarring contrast that exists with dark trousers and lighter shoes. You’re implying (or I could be wrong) that I’m saying that one shouldn’t wear light colors. I’m saying that one shouldn’t wear lighter shoes if you’re wearing dark trousers because to my eyes, it’s doesn’t look good. I’m not gonna give someone a pass because they’re in a warmer climate so all of a sudden, a dark suit with light brown shoes is a go. To me, it’s not. Since the culture there, according to you leans towards lighter colors, I would wear lighter trousers to go along with the lighter shoes. Just a thought.

Spot on. My personal favorites in the brown range are my burgundy longwings, followed by my Chili whole cuts. My third favorite brown shoe is my medium to dark brown (started as medium brown, but has darkened over time) cap toe brogue. I agree about light brown. Though I love my Allen Edmonds Walnut shoes, I consider them a summer shoe, to be worn only with lighter colored pants. Oddly, though, a lot of men seem to be gravitating to the light brown, and even on some shoe forums, some guys recommend them as a first or second shoe, which I strongly disagree with. I also agree with your comments about black shoes. They are not flashy, but every man should have at least one pair of good black shoes. It doesn't have to be a captoe oxford, and could be a quarter brogue, a derby, or even a loafer, , but there are times a more serious or subdued look is needed.

But ii is difficult to find them in the quality range of the 25 years old ones I recently discarded, after four resoles, that were American made Florsheim Imperial brand, which are now very poorly made in India. That's not a personal criticism of Indian manufacturing, which is now used by BMW and Hyundai to make products sold in Australia. What’s up, Gavin? If I could only get one, I would always go darker as I find them more versatile pairing them with different color trousers. But since it doesn’t sound like most of your trousers are too dark plus the fact that you dress more casually, mid brown sounds like the best choice.

Burgundy is awesome. Really should be in every shoe collector's closet. I recently added an Oxblood pair of AE MacNeils to my collection. This is a shoe I have been seeking out for years. My last burgundy wingtips were a pair of made in India Florsheims from around 2000, which fell apart by around 2005. I hope that with an expanded rotation and the fact that these are Allen Edmonds, that these could last me a good 15 or 20 years.

I say there are some fundamentals to begin with, and every man out there has to see how much he's willing to vary and grow from there. Some are simply more conservative and by-the-book. Others will find a bolder palette and stylish cuts more to their liking. It could be said that brown dress shoes are my favorite since it's the color I have the most of. If I was suggesting dress shoes to someone starting from scratch, I'd insist on buying a pair of black, a med dark brown, a med brown. Then chose either a navy pair, a pair of olive green, or a burgundy. Whichever you think would compliment your suits and slacks the most. Those four pairs will allow you versatility for a good start and a reasonable cost.

As far as belts, I don’t wear them as I only wear suspenders but they should definitely match the shoes. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have no problem with you saying intro at the start of your videos, I think it is very unique. But I am concerned about the gun shot. It shows you walking down the sidewalk and then suddenly there’s a gunshot and then you’re no longer with you. Given the fact that it’s open season on black males in America. What’s the gunshots intent?

Every dapper man in the UK wear Tan Shoes

I don’t quite understand your comment because how do you know what EVERY dapper man wears? Also, what’s your definition of dapper? And lastly, who said that one couldn’t wear tan shoes?

@@v_r_ I'll answer in reverse, no one said no-one couldn't wear tan shoes, properly dressed genteel or gentleman is 'Dapper' I don't mean skinny pant and suit that don't drape... As per 'everyman' it's cultural statement... Light brown or tan shoes are more acceptable in the city of London than let's say New York. More so, style is very personal. I watch your channel to learn but that doesn't mean we must always agree. Thanks for replying. Hopefully we will engage more on the positives

I think you misunderstood my point in the video, I never said that one shouldn’t wear than shoes but rather they aren’t as versatile as darker colored shoes since they’re harder to pair with darker suits/trousers which is a fact. With that said, one can still choose to wear what they wish, I chose to spoke on it because a lot of guys do it because they don’t know no better, I was one of those guys myself. Maybe this video will do a better job of clarifying my point 👉🏾 kzitem.info/news/bejne/256GyKqKaYeZgIY. Cheers!

@@v_r_ I got the drift. Well you misunderstood my comment. I understood and still understand that the emphasis of the video is the versatility or the lack of it of shades of brown shoes and to that extent the darker the shoe the more versatile it is... No doubt. My comment was benign- light shades of brown shoes are seen around a lot especially in the summer... My comment was no attack on your video... I will sure view the video that linked... Cheers

Vlad: Appreciate the great advice! So, making use of some early Black Friday sales I took a leap of faith and made a sound investment. Here's the deal, over the last 2 months I have picked up: 1) Carmina Half-Brogue Oxford in Burgundy; 2) Carmina Double-Monk in Medium Brown, and lastly 3) Carmina Captoe Oxford in Dark Brown. Now, I've got to return to my regularly scheduled programming: IRA deposits every month! Happy Thanksgiving to you your family!

I'm mostly with you on the evaluation. I do own 2 of the brown colors you mentioned BUT burgundy is technically NOT a shade of brown! ;) I own several shoe styles in that color of course because, as you stated; it is most versatile... agree with the sentiment that light brown is less versatile but you really wear those for a bit of a flash, to peacock, yes you don't want them to over power your look but you do want them to stand out. Least that's how I do it.

That is your own opinion you are wrong . Also that way you speak is wrong . You speak like gettho people .learn another culture another lenguage

If my name was Gustabo, I'd be upset too, so I get it. But it looks to me like you need to learn the English language so you can spell words properly before you come at me. But I’ll help you out, it’s ghetto not gettho 😂😂😂 and it’s language not lenguage. Oh and it’s “the way you speak” not “that way you speak”. You need to do better.

Buy cheap cemented black shoes and shine em well, nobody will notice and even compared to shell, and go full blown on shell cordovan brown one. Black is overrated and bland colour, the fact i only wear em 1% on my entire life.

@amri mustaqim. That's a good idea, if you only wear those black shoes to the weddings and funerals of family and friends. But if you dress for your job, or to expand your social contacts and you think they won't notice, then you are not paying attention those who associate with your peer group. An old saying goes that "In the land of the blind, the One eyed man is King". He is also the one wearing well polished and mirror shined, black leather shoes, with real leather soles. Phil.

Ok! We have different views on Menswear and that’s completely fine. To me, your outfit should be in perfect harmony from top to bottom. If anything is going to stand out more than the rest, I want it to be something that’s close to my face. I’d hate for my shoes to be the first thing that someone noticed when I walk into a room.
