The Japanese / Judoka didn't do the Kimura either. Kimura picked it up from cross training with Wrestlers. Japan deserves full credit for Juji-Gatame, Ude-Gatame and Sankaku-Jime. You can see these moves depicted in historical paintings. The rotating Arm-Locks (or Shoulder Locks) all came out of America. I don't think anyone knows their origin beyond a couple hundred years ago in England.

This isn't true. Far back as 1912, the Japanese were doing Americana/Ude Garami from side control. There's no reason to believe they weren't doing Kimuras as well. Judo makes no distinction between the two in terms of naming, either. kzitem.info/news/bejne/zH180p9joaWqe3o
