As you probably know by now, I love villages in France - the narrow streets, the big stone walls, the little shops, the traditions, the people.
In this video, I combined three of those villages - All three are located in the same area, quite close to each other, in the South of France, more precisely in the Occitanie region.
I will start with Sainte Eulalie de Cernon, not only a beautiful village, but also rich in history since it was, for more than 600 years, the cradle of the powerful religious order the Knight Templar and other religious and military orders. You can actually visit the Roman style church, the courtyard and the dormitory where the monk soldiers lived.
Just a few miles away is the Viala du Pas de Jaux - I know, we have some pretty long names in France, don’t we?!
This one is famous for its 88 foot tall tower, built in the 15th century. In these days, 88 feet was very tall for a tower. It was built for protection, to keep the local people, their food and their animals safe in case of enemies’ attacks. You can actually go up to the top and enjoy the scenic view.
My third pick today is Saint Jean d’Alcas, a beautiful village inspired by the Cistercian order - authentic, fortified, and lots of character as you can see…
