Also as a Blackmagic shooter (OG, 4k and 6kg2) who also shoots on the S5 (haven't upgraded yet, but will be getting the S5iix) mixing Panasonic and Blackmagic footage is just so easy. Even when I shoot on the OG. The footage just works together with the S5 seamlessly! Yeah Panasonic and Blackmagic are just a great combo and now with this new camera with the L-mount. I'm a fan, and will be grabbing this little dude here in a bit as well.

Everyone buries the lede on this analysis. BM open gate = 12-bit RAW completely internal, versus Lumix open gate = 10-bit 4:2:0 spooled out to an SSD or feeding out via a laggy HDMI port to a clunky external monitor. Plus with the CC 6k you get balanced audio inputs, integration with an affordable cloud workflow (soon, and totally internal, just supply internet which can be done with a cellphone), a separate locking power input, metadata based timecode (rather than tying up an audio channel and having to conform timecode in a separate step), plus a screen twice the size and a menu system that’s much easier to navigate. Autofocus is a thing, but with practice and shot planning manual focus works well enough or often better in many scenarios. If you need to capture fast video action (sports, wildlife), neither of these cameras is a good fit. Pick a hybrid system with a better long lens ecosystem such as Nikon or Canon. And go back to the start, 12-bit RAW or 10-bit 4:2:0 for image quality absolutely there’s no comparison.

If they add internal ND to a future, L mount, camera it will have to be electronic ND, because all their previous ND were mechanical swapping, and the L mount has to short a flange distance to support that type of ND. That said if one is willing to use longer flange mount lenses, like EF, then one can get a ND lens adapter and have something similar.

To make a future better form factor camera, BM first have to improve their camera app to have image trasmission like sony and red already did. A internal ND would be possible but it would be more on the expensive side like the one in the canon C70. Alternatively BM could keep a 4-5 inch display and move the battery spot to the bottom and make the camera less wide. Auto focus is not the focus from BM since its cinema focused and if you need it, just use a PD movie 3 air. Personally I'd wait to upgrade for a pro version. But I'm impressed by the image and low light performance, also the L mount since it support so many budget cinema and anamorphic lenses.

I share your reasons for getting the BMCC6K camera. I'm currently shooting with the Sony FX30. But, I have had my eyes on the S5iix, in large part because Panasonic has some of the best skin tones in their color science. And because the S5iix can record to an SSD. Just like my old BMPCC4K. (Which I sold for an A7iv). And having shot with the BMPCC4K, I came to love the color science of BRAW. Like you said, BRAW does look "cinematic" straight out of camera. My only concern with the BMCC is its shutter readout speed 😬 at open gate resolutions it reads at 25/ms which is one of the worst readout speeds I’ve seen on newer camera releases, and maybe that there’s no 6k 60fps but that’s just nit-picky for budget and beginners. That being said, everything else seems amazing on the new BMCC as far as features go in my personal opinion

@@AnthonyRodriguezzYeah Foveon tech is very interesting but not easy to develop especially for video. Sony has a few Foveon like patents as well. Hopefully this leads to some revolutionary breakthrough for cinematography and not just photography. They already have a cult following in the photography world. From Google's Generative AI: Sigma Foveon sensors are a type of digital camera image sensor that uses a layered structure similar to film. Each photosite consists of three vertically stacked photodiodes, which results in a full-color readout at every individual site. Unlike most sensors found in many mirrorless and DSLR cameras, Foveon sensors capture color information at every pixel making them much more power-hungry

@AnthonyRodriguezz
Жыл бұрын
What do you mean by usable DR? A noisy image doesn’t necessarily mean less dynamic range. You gotta remember this is raw footage so no internal NR is being applied unlike Sony and any other brand
@Sneaky-Sneaky
Жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyRodriguezz This is a pretty complex subject…so I will try and simplify my comment and hope it is understandable. Dynamic range is one primary way to describe the noise characteristics of a digital camera. Noise, iso and DNR are interrelated to each other. As ISO goes up away from the native ISO SNR goes down and noise goes up. On previous BM pockets the the usable top ISO was about 800 before to much noise as stated by many users. When you read in camera specs what the DNR of a camera is ….like 14+ stops….this is in reference to the base ISO of the camera. As you move up and away from the base ISO noise is induced and DNR shrinks. So, usable DNR just means the DNR you have at the top usable ISO before it induces too much noise. Or, we can just say as you increase ISO away from the base ISO the DNR is decreasing and the likely hood of visible noise is increasing. For some cameras this happens at a lower ISO. Your S5IIx is significantly better at this than the previous BM pockets. For previous models after ISO 800 …. it seems to be a breaking point for many. I will say that what sticks out first for most people is noise not shrinking DNR. Maybe the term usable DNR is a little confusing. Cheers….

I found it really disappointing, black magic hasn't put out a camera in a while, and now this is officially their "cinema line" and beyond the uncomfortable pretty much universally disliked formfactor, it's the lack of professional io that I find frustrating, its not a "cinema camera" that can be easily used on higher end sets where SDI, and Timecode are necessities, and it also doesn't have the run & gun features I'd want like built in NDS full sized XLRs IBIS etc... I'm not sure who this works for... I'd prefer the pocket 6k pro for run & gun and the panasonic BS1H (which also costs 2500) for higher end work, I think people will still buy it, but it sounds like pure hype with no significant improvements.

I’d disagree on many points you’ve made. The c70 has the same exact IO and is a perfectly fine camera to use on set. Also IBIS for the longest time was not a usable thing on set, yet you mentioned it.
