Cameron, for millions of us 80’s kids, Randy is right up there with Edward as most influential guitarist of our generation. You’re an amazing musician, Cameron. Appreciate you keeping the legacy of such great musicians alive.

Evh stands out to me because he has soooo many riffs that are unique, groovy, and super fun to play. I think out of any guitarist, Evh came up with the most songs that from the moment I first heard them, I knew I wanted to learn to play them. On my list of influential guitarists from the 80’s, Randy is almost tied with Vito Bratta for 3rd & 4th.

@@MF-Alien Listen to what Rudy Sarzo said about Randy and this is a quote : What were Randy’s main influences? His influences were late-’60s, early-’70s English rock guitar players. He didn’t have any R&B influence or anything, so it’s totally English. And classical music because of his schooling. His mother had a lot to do with that, teaching him and influencing him with classical music. So by the time he got to England, he was not like a typical American guitar player who had had the influence of R&B music and country music, because he’d never played that. Were there any particular players he admired? Yeah, let me tell you who they were. He really admired Gary Moore and Eddie Van Halen. Those were his top two guys he really, really admired.

@@DetroitWrecker666 Randy wrote out and planned out his solo's and was anal about redoing things if it wasn't absolute perfection . EVH was the opposite , EVH was a "Wing it" player and never bothered to fix any mistake . He admits he made a huge mistake at the beginning of eruption and didn't bother to fix it.

One of my favourites from Randy was only played 3 times in 1 of the songs. It’s the riff that’s played before the solo in Diary of a Madman. It’s such a powerful riff and adds such an impact to the song despite being played a few times

I could tell from the thumb what lick was first, classic. Also, a classic riff from Randy is the prechorus of "I don't know". The big G to the apreggiated F! And his best solo imho is the outro for Tonight.

Do you know the story behind that Steal Away the Night riff? The band was in the studio recording a couple of songs for Blizzard. Randy was warming up in his room and he was playing that opening riff as a warm up exercise. Ozzy heard that down the hall, came rushing down the hall, burst open the door to Randy's room and asked him "What the hell was that?" Randy told him that he was just warming up. Ozzy said 'Remember that. That's going to be our next song."

Cameron there is one riff Randy does on the Suicide Solution live solo in Cleveland in 1981. He opens with 2 ascending n descending runs then stops. Then does this 3 note per string climb n the riff he does right before he starts the diminished arpeggio descending n ascending run. Do you know what he is doing there. Nobody has covered that live version which is the best IMO.

One of the most original. I can't really think of anyone who even tries to play like him. He had so many unique approaches to the guitar.. He and EVH are true GOATS. Hey Cameron I unscrewed the Toggle switch from the front and unscrewed the back plate and turned the toggle so the bridge is up like Ed did it. This allows for tapping without bumping into the toggle. It's real easy to do. I also put 8s instead of 9s adjusted the truss accordingly plays great.
