Good morning ma'am. I am a light music singer. I have learnt Carnatic also upto Keerthanai level. Do I need to practice in the morning Carnatic music or light music as a regular practice every day..? Please reply.
@VoxGuru
6 ай бұрын
Well, both styles require ample practice but if you are primarily into Light Music, then maybe carnatic warmups and sadhakam exercises + Light music song practice could be a good combination. But if you truly enjoy Carnatic music as a genre, then do keep learning it and expanding your Raga knowledge as well. Ultimately the more you develop your musical understanding, it will have a positive impact on any style that you sing.

Ma'am I can easily hit higher notes but I'm struggling with lower notes. You may know that as a female carnatic singer G or G# is probably chosen. At the very beginning of my kacheri, I might be able to hit some manthrasthai notes. But after 2-3 keerthanas, even my madhyamasthai Sa will be unstable and sluggish to hear. Also you may know that for us, singing in a scale like C for more that 2 hours will be difficult no matter how easily we can hit higher notes. Most of the mridangists are not comfortable with A or A#. Does starting our practice session with lower octaves helps me to solve this? In which struthi I should practice? Kindly help an guide with my doubts ma'am. Love you ❤ Let me know if there are also others how relates to this.. if there is any particular way of practice or exercise that helped y'all? I can learn from you guys

You should definitely start your practise with lower notes. And also once you open up to the higher notes, keep coming back to the low notes to ensure you are not stretching too much for long. Gradually this will improve your lower notes stamina as you keep track of this throughout your practise.

There is no such universal scale :-) Pick a scale where you can reach from lower octave Pa to upper octave Pa comfortably.

what do you suggest, learning in group or one guru per student per session?
@VoxGuru
6 ай бұрын
At VoxGuru, we teach in small batches of 5 students. We find it very motivating for students as they learn with peers who are at a similar level. They regularly exchange practice experiences and there is always a healthy competition. We have seen great results from this format so far :-)

Closing one ear is often used as a good method to focus more on shruti. It is fine to use it occasionally when you feel a bit disconnected from the shruti, but I feel one shouldn't be too dependent on it such that we can never sing without closing our ear. Try to gradually get comfortable listening to our full voice without getting disturbed by it.
