How I realised I am becoming a fragrance snob for the first time: I remember how I wanted to show to a friend how awful some niche fragrances can be. Smelling animalic and actually fecal. I chose my decant of Desert Caravan by the Gate for this. It was the worst thing I ever smelled. So awful, it was beyond me why anyone would pay money to smell like this. I hadn't smelled it for about a year when I sprayed it on a test stripe and prepared to be hilariously disgusted like before … But no. To my own surprise, I actually liked it! I liked the smelly poopy weird fragrance that disgusted me before! This was disturbing. Something had fundamentally changed. It was this moment that I realised that in only 3 years of collecting I had turned into a niche snob. It will be only a matter of time until I wear stuff like Tyrannosaurus Rex on a hot summer day in the office, laughing ignorantly at those peasants that will try to escape my fallout like scent cloud of extravagant perfume art. 😅

Same here. I’m 55 and started about a year ago. Started out with designer fragrances and then I got my first niche for a Christmas gift. It was Amouage Interlude black iris. There’s a distinct difference between niche and designer, mainly quality and and uniqueness of the scent. Justin is a big influence in my fragrance purchases. In a good way. I tend to show more of a favor for fragrances that smells extraordinary, and projects like a beast, with at least 8 hours of longevity; therefore it doesn't matter to me whether it's Niche, or a main stream fragrance. I didn't expect to love it because of its aquatic notes, but I have to say it is one of the most unique and well-crafted aquatics I've ever tried. Great channel and great work! I agree with the distinction you made but IMHO I think that the fragrance community tends to oversimplify the distinction between the 2 groups. I have a lot of fragrances that (exception made for fragrance enthusiasts) are not exactly mainstream. I think about Dior Homme Intense, Dior Homme Parfum, Eau Sauvage Parfum, Prada Luna Rossa Black, Gentleman Reserve Privee. Some of these were super hyped or popular in the "fragrance community" but not so much outside. Never found anyone wearing the same type of fragrance in years of working in the office. The fact that the mainstream brands are deciding what we wear is true just partially, there is plenty of choice in the ouside world to smell unique and yet buy designer products. It largely depends also on taste. I'd probably pick Dior Homme intense over 100 other niche fragrances because that creation tells me a story and evokes unique feelings in me. But I get your point, designers are more concerned in what the public likes and more targeted to "please the masses" while there is more freedom and creativity on the niche side. Fragrance recommendations: if you have any change to get it in the US try Les Couvent fragrances, the perfumer is Jean-Claude Ellena. 2 in particular: Vetivera that became quickly my favourite vetiver fragrance, dark, wild and marine at the same time (something unique) and Ambra from the same collection, a magic scent!

Designer = this is what we should wear Niche = this is what you could smell like This insight right here seems obvious and yet hardly observed by most; like common sense.. I may also be just 2/3 because i dont judge people who like mainstream perfumes like BDC Sauvage and even Y. Also, i myself am open to designers so long as the composition seems different like Joop Splash, Boss Pure, Gianfranco Ferre in the mood for love, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Dunhill Century. On top of your 5 fragrances which as you said were mostly spicy, my niche perfume is ganymede which has a fresh side but has depth or development with its leather, spice and a touch of woods. This is great video that no content creator will think of discussing. Thanks JC

I’ve just noticed I have zero interest in even hearing about designer even though I’m sure some of them I would probably absolutely love haha

I think i'm literally the opposite of a niche snob. I. I'm largely apathetic to Niche releases. I'm curious, and watch videos but it's so expensive i so I'm not following closely. 2. I don't seek to wear artistic fragrances and I 100% want to appeal to masses. Though i do wear only what I like. 3. I judge people overtly and covertly for only liking niche fragrances & judging those that don't buy just niche. Note re: #2: I get lots of decants of niche but 90% of the time my what smells good to me ends up being a mass appeal. Example, I'd take most blue/acquatics (BDC for example) over the decant i have of Elysium. Not for me. That happens most of the time. I mean my Scent of the Day is fricken Sean John Unforgivable baby! Not even high end designer lol.

I've only been in this fragrance game for two years. I really got into it by accident by being mad at my wife. While serving 21 years in the Army 1993-2014. I did purchsse fragrances but not a lot. My first fragrance that I purchased in 2020 Dior Sauavge. I believe im a Niche snob. Now I Only purchase Niche fragrances

I don't think I'll ever be a Niche snob. Despite having a decently sized collection of Niche fragrances, I still douse myself with Versace pour homme about half the time I'm at the gym 😅

The way you describe "Raffaello", makes me want to try it right away. I think I will like it a lot! I am a fragrance snob, no doubt. I tried one perfume from "Blackliff Parfums", and to me, it smelled like burnt wires, but had something else that I really liked. (Sounds krazy?)

These three signs make me more of a snob than I would've thought, with still more designer bottles than niche. 2/3rds snob. Flanker number 20 in a Designer range doesn't get me excited just by hearing about it, though I do actually like my gifted AdG parfum more than I would've thought. Also, mostly I wear what I feel like wearing, only adjusting the sprays to my surroundings if needed. Amouage overture to the office? Why not? I do like to expand my friends' horizons by letting them try something a bit more off the beaten path, but if they like their Armani Code, Versace Eros or Dior Sauvage better, then that's great for them, no judgement from me.

Not a snob but i hate hearing about another new designer rekease or flanker. I told my friend that I'm happy enough to smell smell like citrus and flowers 😂 . There are many older perfumes that accomplish this for me.

I’m not gunna lie, I will pick something up that I get excited to wear that day or I’ll be thinking of a fragrance that I want to wear. I’ll think of what my wife will think or does she like this one. I’m sucker for getting at least one compliment from my wife a day.. so I can’t say I’m a complete snob and not quite 100% with #2 on your list of rules

2.5 out of 3 I'm pretty much a fragrance snob , I saw some who only collected 2.5 to 5ml mini bottles and I thought that was a bit strange, some who only collected celebrity fragrances and the clone collectors who never bother to check out the original, they're all a bit weird to me.

Notta, I purchase my fragrances designer or niche based on whether I can correctly pronounce the name and brand correctly 😅 Or what my wife tells me to buy 😮, If you buy yours based on my standards must own many (Designer & Niche). I sometimes think you speak fluent everything, "PEACE" Doc

I'd like to amend Rule 2; there are many designers that I own and will cherish forever, but I am convinced that all (are at least 99%) of new designer stuff is atrocious; I would like to petition that I qualify for rule 2 under that amendment 😁

There should by an extra category for me. I moved to niche, becase the designer fragrances are sooooo synthetic. I have no problem with simple fragrance that smells naturally, but I do when a good fragrance is made from shitty matetials...

The bottles though? 😅 lol the niche sector has some of the most hideous bottles I've ever seen. Not appealing at all just going by looks. Immanence is a cool bottle though

Too many things smell good to be a fragrance snob. Crazy thing is now we’re saying certain brands that only really make fragrances aren’t niche but are luxury brands then other brands are niche and luxury designer brands are just that. It’s all marketing. Fragrances themselves are niche items as only small subset of the population wears them.
@stayfreshproductions

Sure, if we want to blur all of the lines, we could say it’s all marketing and it’s all niche. But we know it’s more nuanced than that.
