After almost 3.5 hours of flying plus a 45 minute delay getting into Chicago-Midway and having to wait on a flight crew before leaving for Albuquerque, me and my folks made it to the "Land of Enchantment." Before heading up to Chama via Santa Fe, we stopped at the Marmon crossover at Mesita, NM along the BNSF Gallup Subdivision. I was hoping to catch some 70+ mph stacks and racks, BUT apparently all freight trains are restricted to 55 mph at crossovers on this line... I was kind of disappointed, on top of missing Amtrak #4 despite the train being almost 5 hours late due to a delay east of L.A. somewhere. Despite this, I made the best of it. The sounds of the horns echoing off the adjacent mesa makes this quite a cool spot, too! And to think; if we would've gone just a couple miles east of here near Suwanee, no doubt these trains would be doing every bit of 70. The Gallup Sub. is DEFINITELY on my bucket list for my future railfan adventures the southwest U.S.! Hopefully I can make it out there again VERY soon! Can y'all say, "road trip?" Anywho, enjoy this little tidbit of action on the famed former Santa Fe mainline in the amazingly enchanting state of New Mexico! Note that these trains came within almost an hour of being at this spot. 80-90 trains a day is no joke for this line. Footage from the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad's Engineer/Fireman School will be uploaded here soon!
(Also if anyone has any info regarding the symbols of these trains, that would be very much appreciated!)
