Here in Southern California, we recommend using inline drip irrigation for a lot of projects because it is efficient & gives you a lot of control. Let's see how!
1. Create a plan
If you are able to start with a totally clean slate, that's great! Ideally, you would have a general plan of where you want things first so you can make sure the correct amount of water can get there.
2. Lay out your parts
Once you have a plan, you can take inventory of your parts and start to have a rough assembly. It's like toys for adults! Poly tubing is great for your main lines, and drip tubing can lay in your beds. Other important pieces are stakes, a timer, valves, and your connectors.
I like to do this in the sun on a warm day so the tubing is pliable. If you have enough space, you can lay it out flat and start to put things together.
3. Install & enjoy
In this case, we're tapping into an existing line because the garden is expanding! We're also accounting for future growth and giving ourselves a couple of extra feet to play with down the road.
At the end of a line, I prefer to use the figure 8 pieces instead of a barbed plug which can be tough to get off. To branch off, just add T connectors and use your drip tubing where you want your plants to get water.
Once you have everything in place, turn it on and give it a go!
