One of the simplest techniques that I have found really helpful is to write down three things that your are proud of yourself for every night. It will he hard at first, but force yourself to keep trying. By doing this, you can train your attention to be more biased toward positive experiences.

Most of us spend our entire lives focusing on the negative words from others and we allow it to immobilize us. We forget about the hundreds of great things people say. My own personal issue was the fear of being judged especially when I am pouring my heart out... so rather than fearing...I face it head on. I let it fuel me to higher levels. I changed my mindset around negative comments and it has set me free. Now, I am like...BRING IT ON! ;-) Keep being amazing!

I changed my mindset around people's comments. Rather than giving focus to it... I let the negativity fuel me. I don't shy away from the issues but I don't let it bother me to a point of quitting. I am not going to lie...negativity can have an affect on me for a short period of time...but I figure out how to use that as fuel. I use it as a stepping stone. I use it to dive deeper into my message.

Marie, this is spot on. And it doesn't just "sound right" - this is a Biblical truth! I personally love keeping a journal of all the good I see God doing in my life. Each week on Sunday I reflect on all that happened the week and I see one answered prayer after another. This helps me combat the lie that "the world is against me" because I see that miracles are happening every day, and things that I once thought were bad were turned for my good. Suddenly I am able to praise instead of worry. In Bible it says, " Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things." (Philippians 4:8) Love your channel, I have been watching it for years. ~ Laura

In moments of negativity bias I say to myself: "May I be well, May I be happy, May I be peaceful," over and over again as I soak in the FEELING of what those words mean (like full of self love, acceptance and gratitude).

Yes negativity bias happens and best thing to do is distract ur self even if by a coffee break with colleagues, also focusing on life priorities like family and health , and reminding ur self of positive experiences / achievements no matter big or small

I completely understand the need for this. However, the issue will still remain and until we face it head on and change our mindset around the negativity...it will continue to effect us. Or at least it still effected me. Changing the mindset around this, completely turned me around. And I have watched it turn others around as well. We all have different tools we use but I have helped hundreds of successful recording artists, actors and performers with this mindset shift. The mind is powerful and when we allow the negativity to fuel us...powerful things happen. ;-)

I came up with an idea of 'distracting the distraction' - it just helps me fight through the negativity. What I do is that I try to do things that I don't normally do, for example, cooking/baking.

I use a positive/gratitude jar. Every day I write on a post it note something positive OR something I'm grateful for. So even if having a rubbish day I take time to focus on something positive

When I start feeling negative or down I either jump on our mini trampoline or go outside and play in the dirt, or a walk on the beach - works like a charm! When my son was an adolescent and he would get into a slump or get a bit too snarky, I would have him jump on our mini trampoline and repeat a positive mantra . . . positive transformation in less than 3 minutes! xxoo

thats just so important in general. we are so used to get weigh down by the one out of hundreds of comments/reviews whatever thats negative. I have that in daily life as well - I can hear 10 compliments but if I get criticised, it stays much longer in my head.

This JUST happened to me last weekend. I knew it was happening and even then I couldn't stop it in it's tracks- it's almost like a fire... acknowledging it so you know it's there allows you to pour water over it and snuff it out with something good. My tendency is to feed the flames with evidence I can find to support the thought- in this case, that my client wasn't over the moon happy. One of the greatest pieces of advice I've ever received is this; "Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not who someone else is today". You got this.

I created a #Gratefultweets project for myself about a year and some change ago. I wanted to focus on one single moment throughout my day versus on the negative which was a lot at the time. The goal was to remember one good, or greater, moment that I was grateful for. So I just did that everyday. After a while, it became a habit to look for one thing. To help making myself focus on the positive, I started to meditate, ate more healthy, and focused on the positive. When the negative came lurking around, I did what I could to find a solution to the problem and sometimes had to accept that I couldn't control certain situations. I finished my project and learned that no matter what I do- I have to give it my best and my all. I've stopped tweeting because now I write my grateful moments on my calendar so that I can see and remember that my year was a positive one. :)

I do this with everything I have ever said or done. It’s like a tape playing in the back of my mind all the time. It’s exhausting, and anti depressants only put a tiny dent in it. I have thought of starting a journal where I list positive memories- maybe that will help.

Thanks for the cheerful and compassionate approach to a commonly cringey sitchyation, Marie! =P I use a super similar protocol all the time. I find this process analogous to getting on a train on the subway; once you're on it and realize you're headed south... when due west is your intention and preferred direction. It's unlikely the train will stop dead in its tracks just for you-and that wouldn't help you out much anyway-but it does however have a stop coming up in a moment which you can leverage to turn yourself around! So get off at the next stop and re-direct, silly poo. This happens all the time, especially in NYC, so two things will happen putting this awareness into play: Firstly, you won't be so reactively peeved as to let this ruin your day, it happens, and you know the course of correction, and how super smart you are at implementing it-ain't no tumbleweed-y interruption gonna escalate into a big hairy deal on Your watch. You got life to live, honey. Secondly, it won't be very long before you develop yourself into such a diligent and efficient traveller that it'd be unlikely for you to board the wrong train regularly enough to impact your schedule and life in any measurable way. And that's enough, because sometimes you run into super delightful components on the re-routing, so that's a pleasant part of the process too and an emphasis well put on the joy being IN the journey, period! When I have any negative set backs in my professional life or negative people I focus on the cause. Why did this client leave? Why is this person being negative toward me? etc. This way I can improve myself by changing my strategy or be grateful that I'm not in such a neg. and nasty state of mind. Also negative people give me the opportunity to practice keeping outside influences from controling my mental and emotional state, which I'm also grateful for.
