The Expanse does all of this right! Except their airlocks can open under pressure, but since they all slide, they can get away with it. On top of that, people don't get sucked out; in most of the show, when someone is spaced, they actually have to move the ship to get them to "fall" out.

Interested to see your take on inertial dampeners. Every Sci-Fi with space travel have this invisible off-camera magical devices allowing a ship to accelerate to "warp" speeds or other very fast speeds in mere seconds and everyone inside somehow remain in one piece.

Hey, thanks for this! This video is very educational and informative! Well, when it comes to Hollywood physics, you have to suspend your disbelief or you will not enjoy them, especially when it comes to superhero movies! 😉 We can imagine these impossible physical feats as poetic symbolism and surrealism. And more importantly, we can aspire to our favorite superheroes, however, not by possessing superpowers, but by performing acts of kindness and empathy. That's being a real superhero! 👌🏻 Anyway, you're very entertaining! 😆😆😆😆 I look forward to seeing more of your videos! You just earned a new subscriber! 🙂

Flying things are usually wrong. Meteors (Deep Impact, Greenland, etc.) always come down way too slow. In Die another day, the plane just keeps flying forever as it gets lower and lower, gets engulfed in fire and bits drop off. Don’t get me started on the Fast and Furious franchise or the later Die Hard movies. Ridiculous CGI that invents it’s own physics.

But wouldn't the movie be bad if things just happened in an instance. You would never have enough time to find it exciting. I am glad they get it wrong, and make it way too slow, because that makes for a good movie, which is after all the point of making a movie in the first place.

Trying to figure out how the "Magic" could possibly, actually work "that way", is a great mental (yeah really mental) exercise. How do zombies or vampires function? How does the Hulk gain a ton of mass? Even an elephant can't pick up and throw a tank. In the case of Iron Mans armor I like to make-believe the fusion power generator on his chest can envelope him in a flexible, reactive, slippery/deflective "Force Field" so that some things never actually hit the armor. I mean fantasy + fantasy =fantasy!

Or how the hero one handed picks up a car, or something ridiculously heavy. No matter how strong something is, it can't pick up something more massive than itself without transferring the weight of what it's picking up somewhere. So even if you had the strength to pick up a car one handed, when you tried to pick up the car you would just lift yourself up off the ground.
@rbkstudios2923

Well Not exactly For single handed cases It also depends upon coefficient of friction and the angle to terrain But if you are standing right below the object you are to lift, then you *can* lift it anything as long as your bones and muscles do not crumble into each other Picture 4 screw jacks lifting a car. The material strength counts... Their muscle and ligament strength also counts, coz without that, there bones would just detach from or crash into each other Correct me if I'm wrong Atoms and Sporks

@@rbkstudios2923 the screw jacks are lifting straight up and the center of gravity is under the car. The hero who's weight less then the car, can't pick it up from the side. It would be like 1 screw jack not bolted to the floor. Then don't get me started on the fact that they walk around on grass, or other soft ground, with a 3000lb car above there head. Their feet would sink at least a foot into the ground. 🤦♂️ It's stuff like this that makes my wife not watch movies with me. 😞

In space, you do lose heat to by radiating it away, about 1250W/M^2. Metabolism can only replace a few hundred watts of that, so you will want some insulating clothing

IIRC "the bends" will kill you first if exposed to space. After that is asphyxiation if the pressure change is slow enough to avoid decompression sickness.

Those rockets in his hands, arms are going to be ruined. Also how he can float in mid air and exert force on an object without a reaction force. Its as though the suit is "wire-fu"

Vibranium only makes sense if it completely reflects all incoming impacts above a certain force.
@atomsandsporks6760

Well actually a perfect reflection would deliver TWICE the force. If it loses p momentum coming to a stop from impact it then takes 2p to take it from p to 0 to -p.

Gravity. Like when villains jump 20' across a gap between two tall buildings. Ya'll are dead. The record long jump (in ideal conditions with sandy landing zone) is almost 30'. The girls' HS record is about 22'. What would an average Joe criminal be able to jump? 10"? I know that I'd be lucky to make 6'. That's not to mention that there's ledge on the sides of both buildings which impedes your run/landing. How many "fail" videos have we seen where people hurt themselves trying to jump long distances? Too many.
