In this episode Matt is joined in the kitchen by fellow KZitemrs Cat & Nat (bit.ly/1LtyLqD) to create 3 unique twists on the classic Caesar recipe Canadians have been enjoying for years.
The Caesar or Bloody Caesar was invented in 1969 by restaurant owner Walter Chell in Calgary, Alberta. It has since become incredibly popular throughout Canada and as you can imagine is primarily consumed there. It is typically made from a mix of vodka, tomato juice, clam broth, hot sauce, and Worcestershire. It is also generally served with ice in a good sized glass and garnished with a stalk of celery and a wedge of lime. Although similar to a Blood Mary the inclusion of clam broth makes a clear separation between the two drinks. There are in fact an estimated 350 million Caesars consumed annually in the country.
Instead of sticking with the traditional Ceasar recipe Matt, Nat and Cat will be making 3 exceptional variations on the original recipe each with its own special flare. This includes one made from Tequila, one from Sake, and lastly one from Bourbon. So, let's get started!
The first Caesar recipe the triple threat decide to tackle is the Sake Caesar. Of the 3 different recipes this one is the lighter option. To make this start by adding 4 ounces of Sake to a mixing cup, the kind you might use to make a Martini for example. We are adding 4 ounces of Sake because we are making 3 Caesars, just so you have an idea of what the ratio should be. Take 3 glasses and some fresh limes and coat the rims evenly, then put the rims down in a mixture of salt, ground pepper, and black ginger. Skewer a few pieces of seared tuna onto 2 skewers along with a bit of fresh ginger towards the top. Add an ounce of soy sauce, a bit of wasabi, some fresh lime juice, and finally a generous amount of Clamato to your mixing cup. Shake that all together well, add your skewers and some ice to each cup and then pour out your newly created drink.
Caeser number 2 is the Tequila Caeasar. Prior to making this one all 3 of the cooks in the kitchen thought it would be a good idea to take a quick shot, whether you choose to follow their path or not is completely up to you. Start this one off by rubbing some fresh limes around the rim of your glasses and dipping them into a mixture of salt, mango habanero spice, and black pepper. Much like the recipe before add your alchohol, in this case Tequila, to your mixing cup, add a bit of jalapeno hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and finally Clamato. If you haven't already done so create some skewers akin to the ones you see in the video and place these in each of your glasses along with a stick of celery. Put the lid on your mixing cup and mix your ingredients together well pouring an equal amount out into each cup. It was suggested by the crew that you could alternately use skewered onion rings with this one, but again that's absolutely your call.
Caeser number 3 is the Bourbon Caesar. For this one they have pre-skewered sweet pickles and are making grilled cheese sandwiches. To make this Caesar start by adding ice to your mixing cup. Along with your ice add spicy hot mustard, hot sauce, a little barbecue sauce, Bourbon, and Clamato. Rim your glasses with a Meyer lemon and dip them into your spice mixture. Right around this time your grilled cheese should be getting close to being done so keep an eye on them. Once you have all your ingredients put together into your mixing cup put the lid on it and shake well. Pour an even amount into each cup and stick your sweet pickle skewers in topping them each with little triangles cut from your grilled cheese.
Now you have 3 different, delicious, unique ways to change the way you percieve your Caesar so you have no excuse to skip out on inviting all your friends for a taste test of your own.
