Another small but big improvment is that the ergo/rune/soul counter goes from white to blue if you have enough to level up, no need to check in a menu how much you still need or if you have enough Plus yeah quests can be a nightmare in fromsoft games, i feel like its easier to complete a cod zombies easter egg then figure out the quests on your own (at times). They dont have to be spelled out but finding out i had to do a certain emote, at a certain time to find a item, i then have to use near a tree to get dialog from a npc on the other side of the map, only for them to die so i can get a spell i will never use is a bit much (i never got the spell,i was 5 steps to close to a fog wall so half the npcs already died anyway)

For quests and lore, I agree that LOP might seem more convenient but I don’t think it means froms design is bad, just a different approach to make the game more immersive and mysterious that might backfire. ER is rly where these points are relevant because it’s open world doesn’t align super well with froms quests or storytelling. It’s still good just flawed. As for healing I think hollow knight has the best possible system of having hits give you mana (soul) you can then use to heal or cast spells. I rly hope this system is implemented into a from game someday.

From what i have seen FromSoftware doesn't add any depth or any character development to the main character of the game. It's okay and cool to learn about Radahn, Godfrey, Miquella and all, but i also want to see the character i am playing develop too. Even characters like Melina who has one of the least screen time, have a decently established plot focusing on who she is, and what's her purpose. The only time there was a decent depth to the main character was Sekiro . While, Lies of P does focus on character development and i think that's a W.

Yeah, but even the main bosses are not that developed. You can read about them a bit, but it's not enough to form any kind of emotional connection with them. In God of War Ragnarok I spent enough time with Heimdall to make me want to punch his face really hard, so when I finally got the opportunity it was immensely satisfying. You don't get the same in FromSoft games, which is a flaw in my opinion. Except for Sekiro, which is my favourite game made by FS. Because of fight mechanics and a bigger focus on the story.

that comes just with the territory of wanting to give players freedom. if you establish them too much, then certain choices feel out of character, make not enough establishing characteristics (like in ER) then you have to make the player build him up through choices, but there aren't that many significant choices in the game, especially choices that feel like they actually inform or shape your character. going down the frenzied flame path is how he describes somewhat meaningless. Your character has no reaction, nothing changes. they are the same old tarnished in every sense, except now they have cool yellow frenzy flame eyes.

I found myself while playing the Elden Ring DLC to confirm that I think other developers have just done what Fromsoft does but better now. Between Lies of P, Stellar Blade & other similar games they're just a more polished experience. For now Fromsoft is the only one with a big open world but how long before other developers catch up & then Fromsoft either stops making these games or is outclassed directly? Sure they still will have their diehard fans, but all of the points you made I completely agree with. Also can we just have normal coop, join my friend easy, not need to use a convoluted system that requires an item? The reason Lies of P combat is so good is because it follows one core philosophy, if you want to deal the most amount of damage you need to be close to the enemy. Elden ring encourages to move away from it. If you want to deal the most amount of damage in Lies of P you need to parry every attack forcing you to be in the most danger, you can choose what attacks to parry, evade or block allowing you to dinamycally change the difficulty through combat while rewarding risky aggressive behaviour. In Elden ring if you want to deal the most amount of damage you should summon mimic tear and stay as far as possible casting spells. The risk/reward makes no sense. How is an aggressive strategy dealing less damage than a defensive one.

@Lemoncit0

@@TheeOddOrange probably would solve most of the problems for me but the game should focus in giving more options for evading attacks rather than attacking options, rolling is better than jumping so there's no reason to ever use it. I think to completely fix we might need a whole bunch of new mechanics. Maybe tune more attacks to make them jumpable but give the player is slight damage boost if they land a jump attack with the same jump they evaded. This would not only encourage the player to use jumping as an evasion strategy but also to stay closer to the boss. Most attack combos would need to be tuned so that rolling is viable or heavily reducing recovery frames so that I don't get hit right after perfectly dodging one attack Sekiro-like parry might work but I think it would be better to lower their defenses for like 10 seconds so that the player wants to actually attack. This effect should stack so that the player is encouraged to parry multiple attacks. These are just some ideas from someone who never made a game. God i love Elden Ring it’s truly deserving of being, in the top 20 games of all time list if there was one. But the quest systems, truly are too complicated it’s horrendous. Like dawg I would like to do them without mostly needing, to rely on KZitem guides i'd rather have it be just like in Skyrim and be able to do them on my own. For their next game especially a open world one, I truly hope that Fromsoft creates a consistent and well structured quest and general NPC system. It’s a open world game it shouldn’t feel linear, but the current way it is makes it feel very linear. It’s too open if that, is a way to say it. I also think they should do a better job, at the system for NPC’s they have where doing one quest line might cancel another. That should be handled far better.

This is not from Lies of P but another souls like FromSoft should adapt ideas from: Lords of the Fallen, or even more so from Hellpoint. And it's having proper co-op where you can just jump in and play through the entire game without having to constantly disconnect and reconnect. Even better if progress is shared and you aren't constantly bombarded by invaders. FromSoft marketed co-op in Elden Ring a bunch but it's still so half baked like the older games where few will bother playing the game that way and you have to deal with a lot of stupid things. They have the ingredients for a good co-op yet they never do it. On PC you can get around it with the seamless co-op mod but console players have nothing.

The only thing i hate about the souls series is the cryptic story.Sekiro was great but dark souls and elden ring...most of the time i had no idea what the hell was going on even though i REALLY wanted to learn more about the story and characters!I finished all the souls games and i don't remember sh*t about the story because it's like a well kept secret! In lies of p i was invested in the story and wanted to see it through to the end to learn what happens and uncover its mysteries while in Dark souls and elden ring i had a basic idea of what was going on and that i had to save the world.Lies of p did it better

I think it's the best souls like game. Would have been better if it wasnt souls like and just did its own thing. But so many people are falling in love with Edlen Ring and Dark souls it became every 3rd person game style. If i wanted that hard no hand hold and no direction I will stick with the game that popularized it. Everything else that follows might diminished its charm. I didn't want to parry my way through frustration into satisfaction with boring level design. I want to block and roll and find my way there on my own.

I didn’t like how many 2 phase bosses lies p had. It got annoying and the less memorable and frankly unenjoyable bosses having 2 phases was kinda the low point in my experience.

i feel like quest marker is benificial only for elden ring as the game is open world. its good enough in dark souls or bloodborne or even sekiro since those games are more linear. and the fact that you can't progress the specific quest without talking to the npc after fighting a boss is something needs to be addressed. Like for starters, give at least manual save for a specific spot. Or at least hint the npc next location. Hyetta and golden order questline in elden ring are so annoying since it's so fuckin cryptic and the fact is i need to look for guides just to progress those questline is so annoying since it will inevitably leads to spoilers. Honestly, I also couldn't care less about the story since I had no idea what is going on so the spoiler bit is forgivable for my part but I couldnt tell for other players. the questline designs for the DLC is also annoying. I missed a lot of good rewards on my first run because I accidentally progressed too far without talking to the npc. So yeah, miyazaki, i do understands that lack of handholding in elden ring encouraged for player's exploring the world, but at the same time, if the quest was designed that way, it makes the exploring more tedious than fun.

@@TheeOddOrange The thing that drives me nuts about this is that they literally put a solution to this in the game, but only used it once. When Varre changes locations he leaves a note where he was previously and it says something like “Find me at the church of the rose in Liurnia!” Why didn’t they do this more?

I can't sympathize with the first one. The only boss that's killed me more than 2 times was Nameless King, for a total of 13 times. And very rarely was it ever more than once if at all. I died TWICE in Dark Souls 2 and less times in 1 than to NK himself. Turns out changing a bosses swing patterns really got me for awhile. It's not that I am saying you're wrong, but as a watcher, I don't know what it feels like to be in your shoes. Even trying to empathize, I don't understand the notion of not trying your hardest every single time. Giving up, as you did. Every fight has hope and every fight is a struggle. Maybe it's because I treat every fight as a real life live or die battle, I don't know? Edit: As for point two, still disagree. But not that you're wrong about a certain something, just your solution. Quest markers are not the way to go. I think NPCs just need to explain better what they're doing and where they're going and some quests shouldn't break because you didn't talk to them in the interim of important points in their quest. And if a character gets stuck somewhere, then they should stay stuck, and if you do something that would end it, then they should say as much. Both of these things happen, but rarely. They just need to be more informative. Or, and hear me out crazy idea, they should seek YOU out. Edti2: I've never done a lore dive. These games are meant to be experienced, not told. I am not denigrating anyone who does it, the reading or telling, enjoy it how you want, but they just aren't meant for it. I can come up with my own ideas on how things went, just like in real life. I can make decisions based on how a character represents themselves. I did feel bad for the guy in the Fort in Elden Ring and I thought Mr. Haight up on that ridge was too rich and pampered for his ideals AND the situation he was in. I wanted that dude in the fort to live, and I felt bad his daughter "died"(?), and then he went on a rampage. And I had to put him down, elsewhere. I wanted to save them, just like I want to save all the onion knights. I put a LOT of effort in to saving Siegward the first time in DS1. (Mostly by shooting the things from the ridge above, thankfully, I valued the bow in that game). Maybe you felt nothing, but there was intent behind character actions and that made me sympathize with them and try and find both the answer and hopefully a way out for them.

Lies of P definitely is fun to play, that doesn’t mean it outshine any other games in respective genre. ER is loved not because of its best gameplay mechanics but for its exploratory open world adventures along RPG questlines, Guess that’s easy to miss in the eyes of be-holder.

As much as I love Lies of P, Blood-borne is simply the best game ever made. The regenerating last flask is a great idea, but it's unnecessary. Quest markers remind me too much of Ubisoft games. I always knew where to go in fromSoft games, you follow the giant structure and obvious path. It's true, you can miss various quests but it kind of forces the player to explore and get caught by suprise. When I play games where too many quest windows are located and too many waypoints, I often miss fromsoft's approach. Fromsoft tends to have 10-20 quests in their entire game, as opposed to any other company which has 200 fetch quests. I'd rather have quality over quantity. Fromsoft's quests feel rewarding!
