Nice, I like this more accurate/scientific approach. Haven't you done this already a long time ago with your brother-in-law? And probably the first time you showed a formula on Land to House!?? Btw., if you account for the 1.5 feet your head was above the ground when using the goniometer/protractor, then the values for the last two methods are quite equal!

Great video, very informative! Although the efficiency of homemade pumps does show here! 1:7 fall to lift ratio whereas the papa pump can achieve over 1:30

Thanks for taking time to explain how you determine your difference in elevation. Never seen the straw thing before. Just wanted to say you’re using the terminology wrong when describing pump performance, specifically lift. . Lift is actually how high a pump can pull water on the suction side, not how high it can push it. A ram pump cannot develop suction lift, the water level has to be higher than the pump for it to work this is called suction head when water lever is higher than the pump. Discharge head is used to describe how far a pump can vertically push a liquid. The height of the water on the suction side has to be subtracted from the head on the discharge side. (Total head = Discharge head-suction head ) for example. If you have a ram pump installation where the discharge head tops at 100 feet above the pump. The source of water is 10 feet above the pump suction, the total head for the pump would be 90 feet. Say the suction line is in a pool of water in the creek and summer drought lowers it to 5 feet. The pump discharge head would be also be reduced 5 feet so you could only push water to 95 feet. Not a big deal if the pump has plenty of discharge head for the application. When someone is pushing the limits of a pump they may find themselves out of water if the source starts to dries up.

Great video! If you don't have strings or long tapes, you could use that protractor + straw method and using a barometer/altimeter app (most phones have this) can measure its change in Z axis (height) with relative accuracy. So using the same formula, but plug in the height value and solve for hypotenuse to get triangular distance between the two points.

A short cut on Method #3. When you have multiple steps to get the elevation change, you can measure the distance from the ground to your eyes once (say if you are 6 ft tall, your eye level is about 65 inches.) Then, on each step down the hill run the line out to where it shows level right at your eye level. Then only on the last step will you actually have to make a tape measurement.

Neat exploration, thank you for that. The water filled pipe and pressure gauge might be more useful for folks actually installing a ram pump, since the delivery pipe has to be run anyway. BTW next time you run a camera down a mine shaft, use that long long tape measure instead of string and it will spin a whole lot less.

If I got 5 feet of head and 30 ft of 1 1/2 inch head pipe and I have 15 feet lift at and lift pipe is 150 ft long and I have ur smallest pump I think half inch. My thing is that the pump runs 24 7 and goes in a 300 gallon tank and it takes about 4 days to fill it. If I got ur biggest pump would it pump faster and fill my tank in less time with the same setup but different pumps size?

What about a laser and tape measure? If you have more than 6' or so of elevation change you'd have to take multiple readings as well or you could use a really long pipe or board to find the laser at the bottom. 🤪 Line of sight could be an issue in the woods though. 😫

Not that it makes a huge difference, but dont forget the height of your tool....if you sit crouched, protractor is 2 ft above the ground. End point also needs to be 2 ft above the ground. But the distances you work, that's probably splitting hairs.

@@LandtoHouse gov will have all heads for this tech thay teach us that we always have loss but never talk about the converted gain we can make from eletromagnets if u convert all the wast thermal energy around you u can use it universally as energy u need a true sine wave bipolar like the power comp dose a true pure sinewave like a grid tie inverter once the signal is made the system will turn on and consume wast thermal energy from the environment and space around you... there is free energy but it comes from Universal thermal loss and converted into a gain. so a pole Transformer and a microwave Transformer have a common between each other u can take 2 microwave Transformer provide a pure sine wave grid tie inverter to it or a true bipolar sinewave that inter acts with nature in a perfect spherical motion like a flower of life.. if ur home provides this use it as a Source signal then u can simply stack the Transformers on top of eachother in correct fasion and note that the 1 wire on the Transformer must stay connected and the other disconnected your only useing 1 wire on the hi side .. so test ur self 2 microwave transformer stacked on top of eachother same face sides. one side 120 to the wall and the other 120 side to what u want to power and useing the Transformer just the way it came out the microwave with the wire attached causes the energy in its perfect spherical motion to converted wast thermal energy to amp for u hot to cold in to out... should look a bit nuts with u use a form of wireless energy but its interacting with the environment...this is my work a compilation of Otis car. Tesla. and many other very smart people nowadays i think i found the gate source and drainif this gets out to much that it works the power comp and mib will have our headsdont do this at home warning high voltage yet i cant stop u lol DO NOT TOCH THE CORES OR THE WIRES OK u will die make sure u dont touch the core if the hi wire is mounted to it u dont have to mount the hi on the core if u dont want u connect the 1 hi wire to the same side hi on the other transformer then the core should besafe to handle if nessary
