I keep two dollar cost average spreadsheets. One for gold one for silver. It includes spot/ ounces/ premium/ where bought from. It calculate total ounces, average dollars per ounce and when you change todays spot total cash value adjusts. It also has sell section and when I sell any for more the I paid it lowers my "out of pocket" dollar cost average.. It's like a challenge to sell something when premiums or spot are high and buy on dips.

Keep a logbook for each asset class (gold book, silver book, platinum book, copper book, real estate book) these get filled in daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly (depending on how many transactions to transfer, of course) from your main raw logbook (as you show in the video). From these logs you will be able to construct your own buying and selling charts to know exactly where you are, especially if you overlap asset charts and times overtop to see the markets. When it comes to your office paperwork it is best to keep it separated 🎼. Best to do things in duplicate in case of a freak boating accident. Great Video btw ☮

Spreadsheet. Tabs by year. Columns for purchase date, invoice number, qty, total weight (silver), total weight (gold), standardized descriptions for sorting purposes, cost for 1, total cost, company name. I also track total purchases by company which is easy to do with the way my spreadsheet is set up. I do this for two reasons, but the main reason is to occasionally demonstrate my appreciation for a particular LCS who gives me outstanding service. When they do something really nice, I copy the firms, number of orders and total spent in the current year and send it to them with a comment like “this is why you get 90%+ of my business.”

I am a big fan of APMEX and like their portfolio function. If I choose to sell on the open market they give a good retail price of reference, but for the exact reason that you mentioned I don’t buy exclusively from APMEX, because don’t want anyone to have record of my entire stack. The question is if confiscation becomes a thing again, would APMEX give the Feds that data?

The best way to track currently is to spend a little bit of time setting up a google sheet. It's free and you can customize to to track everything you want. Some simple formulas will calculate everything for you. Physical copies are ok if it works for you, but you're very limited on what you can quickly do, time is money, in all the time you've spent keeping track and calculating things in a notebook you could have learned the simple stuff you'd need for a spreadsheet and be off to the races. It's why it always baffles me when someone says "I'm not tech savvy"...all that means is you don't want to learn, because nobody is asking you to develop a new programming language or code an AI. To each his own when it comes to this, but I can't imagine losing the amount of data I can track on my stack by going to paper copies.
