Your husband is really lucky to have you guide him on his loc journey. Thank you for your insightful videos. I have been battling with lint because my stylist used gel and I used to wonder why I had bad lint especially in the perimeter of my head. I then realised, through watching your videos that the gel was actually trapping and collecting all the dirt. I recently just retwisted with just oil like you did here and fingers crossed for lint-free days! xoxo

Nkali Molala are you wrapping your head every night in either silk or satin? What are you using to dry your hair? Is your hairdresser sufficiently shampooing your scalp? If the "lint" is close to your scalp, it could be dead skin and not lint at all.
@nkalimolala9574

I wrap my head in a satin scarf every night without fail, I hardly wear any fluff beenies and scarves. I normally shampoo twice each wash, maybe that's not enough? I air dry my hair (takes me the whole day), the lint is usually where the new growth and loc meet basically where the gel was applied to the previous maintenance. I think it's lint because I pick it out with tweezers and it's literally dirt and gunk. I've taken over the maintenance of my hair now, just to see what exactly is causing the lint.

That seems like a weird place for lint to collect, especially since you are doing everything to ensure you don't attract lint. I'm not saying it's not lint but for it to only collect at the front of the head and not at the back close to where your shirt collar is would lead me to believe it might be dead skin. The gel may have been applied to thick and cause your skin to go into a rejuvenation mode where it shed itself. If you are using a cleansing shampoo, try following that up with a super moisturizing shampoo after your initial 2 shampoos. Are you putting sufficient moisture back in your scalp after each wash? I might try at least hitting your scalp with a blow dryer and not letting your roots air dry. Water can be very drying. Dry the roots then oil with something light. You don't want the oil you are putting on to sit on top of the water and run down your hair without actually getting to your scalp. You definitely sound like you are being proactive and being cautious so I have no doubt you'll get this figured out.

Thank you so much for the heads up, you know having locs sometimes can be super tricky. I'll try your suggestions out in my next maintenance and let's see if I can get this lint under control. Thanks again ;-) xoxo

You're such an inspiration for me to do my husband's locs until I can start my own. I finally tried the loop method and his locs dried overnight. They came out so much more fluffy (in a good way) and then two strand twisted them. Question: how can I improve my loc styling? I'm still a loose natural so I obviously can't do certain things, but I'm trying to keep his retwist maintained longer

It could be the length of your hair and your hair texture. I started off with about 10-12 inches of hair and it’s been 10 months and I’m still not all the way locked on the ends.
