I have an SE 979FSG Flexible Shaft Grinder and the chuck came out of the chuck housing on the hand piece. Any tips or recommendations for fixing it? It was very sudden, I was using it and it just slipped out. The rotating mechanism in the hand piece still spins. Such a bummer!

Those Chinese knockoffs use cheap parts and assembly, that are often put together wrong. Unscrew the base of the handpiece, you can see where it begins to taper down from the cylinder of the handpiece. It may be difficult to remove. You may need to wrap it in some rubber and twist with two pliers. There is a rear bearing at the end of the cylinder there, and a nut that holds in the chuck/shaft (it's one piece) to the handpiece. Make sure that nut is secured.

1/4 is a bit big. I don't think it can fit in the #30. The website says it can do up to 5/32, which seems about right. If you need to use those larger bits, you can use a specialty handpiece. There are some Chinese ones that can do 1/4 as well, they have a bigger chuck and you can see it flare out at the front. Look for JoolTool on RioGrande as an example. They are around 25-30$ on ebay.

Hi, I am a technical stone setter under microscope in Turkey. I have just bought a SR model key type flex shaft with H.30 handpiece. Motor and pedal works so great but handpiece has wobble like 10 micron. It is such a bad problem for me. I need to use smaller burs all the time and have to many problem with diamond wheel grinder while grinding precision work. Is it typical running tolerance of H.30? Is there anything i can eliminate wobbling? If you can help me i really appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is common. #30 is very inaccurate, all chuck-based handpieces are. The smaller bearing based collet handpieces are a bit better, but the #10 is the best for jewelers. There are VERY few handpieces with the precision needed. I would suggest the #10 for stonesetting. It uses smaller bits and has almost no wobble if your bit is straight. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uHl9yIKhoGihnYo
