Listening either my eyes closed the Lauten sounded the most rounded. The Behringer also sounded surprisingly good. That being said, I’m always going to go for the SM57 for price and versatility.

Its very difficult to determine which mic I like more without knowing what that amp is sounding like in the room. I would assume that the best mic would be the one that captures the in-room sound most accurately.

The transition between the Behringer and the Shure makes it sounds like you tuned your guitar lower between takes....but only slightly. I am no guitarist (or sound engineer) but there is a lot more sound in the Lauten and the 57 to work with

Type of microphone more relevant than the price. Placement is almost as important as the mic itself.

One thing I’ve always found with the Lauten, even if sounds unremarkable on its own, in the mix it’s always less work to get it sitting right

Price has little or nothing to do with what kind of microphone works well for one application or another. A $100 microphone can sound great on guitar amp and an $1100 microphone can sound great on a guitar amp. A $10,000 microphone can sound great on a guitar amp. And there are other $100 microphones that can sound shitty on a guitar amp. And other $1100 microphones that can sound shitty on a guitar amp. And other $10,000 microphones that can sound shitty on a guitar amp. Different guitar amps want to be miked with different microphones. A particular microphone in one placement can sound great, and in another placement can sound terrible. This is pointless. Use what you have. Experiment until you like the sound of it. And if you don’t like the sound of it, save until you can buy another microphone. SMH.

To all noobs: the quality of microphone has little effect on your product. Preamp matters much more.
@AfferbeckBeats
5 ай бұрын
What? A preamp should be clean and just be amplifying whatever sound the microphone is capturing. Buying specific preamps for driving to get an effect outside of that basic job is another story, and one that takes a lot more money for a lot less effect than using different microphones.
@pappyprimetime7510

Wrong. There are a ton of budget transformer balanced preamps that will fatten up the sound much more than a higher priced mic would.
