Yeap, in fact there is almost nothing to see in Sparta from that era, because Spartans were afraid of the corruption associated with large public constructions, like temples. All important archeological sites are from later periods, when Sparta became a normal Greek/Hellenistic city.

There was approx 5000 allies at Thermopylae. Herodotus claims there was a million Persians. I doubt that number if a million fighting men; the entire Persian host, including battle train, servants and all the rest of the civilian population that would’ve formed the host entire? Possible. But the fighting men of that host would’ve been around 200,000-250,000 men. So the odds would’ve been around 50-1. They were not fighting on a plain though, obviously as we all know. Estimates reckon that the max amount of men the Persians could get into the narrows between the cliff face and the drop of to the sea, was about 2000, with a front only 100 wide. That kind of warfare would’ve been hell on any Persian units including the Immortals. They were not trained for that type of close quarters combat and they came up against the greatest fighting force, the cream of Hellas, at a pass that was as perfect for THEIR warfare as you could get. The Persians thought they would pass through there in 24 hours. It took them nearly a week and cost them dearly in manpower. If it wasn’t for The Name That Cannot Be Mentioned, providing the intel for the mountain path that delivered the Immortals to the rear of the Spartan position, it would e gone on a tad longer but not much. At that point the Spartans were fighting with shivered spears, barely a shield between them and most with numerous wounds and pertruding arrows, at the last stand on the knoll. This is where the term “fighting tooth and nail” comes from, this last stand, as that is literally what the sort and resorted to. Absolute fkn hero’s at that pass at the Hot Gates. That heroism was immortalised with the epitaph, written by the poet Simonides I think 🤔 “Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by; that here, obedient to their laws we lie”

The same people did not make Sin City. The writer is Frank Miller who wrote both 300 & Sin City, that is the only connection. This is pure Zack Snyder's baby. He broke grounds with this film. This film is studied at film school for a reason. And regarding the outfit comment. Spartans fought the Persians naked. Zack could not show that, so he had to let them put on leather under wear. 🤣🤣

The Spartans actually were more armored than this. They wore a bronze breast plate known as a Curasse. They also wore bronze greaves on their wrists and shins. But they were definitely the premiere fighting man of the Bronze Age. This courageous act really happened made more impressive by Leonidas still being a beast at 60 years old.

True facts: Our arrows will blot out the sun/Fight in the shade is an actual quote from them so that scene was true. No spartan actually died vs the immortals (they just wanted to make them look somewhat tough but it was just like the 1st battle. The immortals had wickerbasket armor. They were cut down like paper) Leonidas didn't die last. He did get killed with an arrow. The rest of the Spartans fought over his body killing thousands of Persians until they died. The Athenians who were with them told the stories about Spartans to others when they left. The narrarator actually did get injured and sent back to Sparta. He was shunned for not dying. He later led that army at the end and they all killed the Persians. It was no contest. They should've left Spartans alone. Xerxes paraded Leonidas' body around which pissed off the Spartans leading the narrarator to get that army to get it back so they could bury him properly. King Leonidas trained Alexander the Great all about war who later took his phalanx formation and was undefeated in war. The depiction of the phalanx formation is 100% accurate.

@@dixbowman3452 as my previous post was deleted…. Alexander was born 70 years after the death of Leonidas….. The Macedonians didn’t learn phalanx warfare from the Spartans. How could they? The Spartans didn’t use the pike or sarrisa. Phillip learn phalanx warfare from the thebans and improved every aspect of Theban phalanx warfare, most significantly by adding four feet to their pikes to create the sarrisa. The Thebans had at this point been the supreme after defeating the Spartans rather badly at Leucrea I think using the oblique order. Of the two things I know most about it’s Ancient Rome and Greek history. So I’m not arguing with historians, I’m correcting just a couple of the most egregious errors of yours.
