I’ve one the same but I change the circuit board to run arduino and changed the drivers to tb6600 , I had to rewire the controller which was a daunting task for me as I’m don’t have much knowledge in this field but good old KZitem came to the rescue and now I have it up and running again . One thing I would like to add and that is it’s a very sturdy machine.

You got a good deal. I paid $650 (USD) for a used 2030 China CNC without the computer and software. I am not unhappy with my purchase; the machine is very sturdy. I got Mach3 and VCarve. Although I got the cheaper VCarve Desktop, the software was still expensive. I drive it with a cheap old computer. Like you, I got this to learn on; there is much to learn, and I dream of graduating to a large machine when I can afford it. About 4' x 4' would be nice - something I could run a door to a house under.

I have a CNC 3040T USB which I got from eBay. For rapid prototyping PCBs, engraving etc it's great. So far I've not had any issues with bad connections, faulty wiring etc but it's early days. Fingers crossed I don't have any issues at all. I've recently done a few mods to mine. Firstly I've upgraded the spindle motor from the stock 200W to 400W. That cost about £50 with the bracket and VFD and gives a little more torque. Next I've 3D printed out some end stop micro switch mounts which just clip on to various parts of the frame to give X, Y and Z homing limits. I'm just in the process of wiring them in now that I've mounted them and ran the wires through the cable harnesses. This will give me a repeatable home position to work from. I've also just purchased a USB endoscope / microscope which I'm going to use as a Camera for alignment and positioning. I plan to 3D print out a mount for it to clip on to the spindle bracket. At the moment I'm using the software that came with my machine which is called USBCNC and it's quite easy to use once you've got the settings for the CNC installed. Mine came with a settings file which I had to import and then after I did that I had to change the language in the USBCNC software to English. It quickly became apparent that some of the settings were incorrect. Some of the directions were set wrong and the steps per was also wrong. It was set to 320 Steps per but having told the machine to move 10mm and it didn't, I quickly worked out that the steps per should have been 400 - so I put that right. I actually quite like the CNCUSB software. It's very simple to use. Pretty much just home the machine, drag in the Gcode and start it up. I wouldn't mind trying Mach3 but it seems the parallel connection on my control box is dead. I purchased a parallel cable for it, hooked it up to my desktop PC running win XP but despite trying to configure Mach3 using a dozen or so different guides, it refuses to talk to my CNC. Perhaps with mine being the USB CNC3040 they didn't bother connecting up the parallel. Instead they just hacked the board to run on USB and didn't remove the old parallel connector from the design. I have also recently purchased an Arduino CNC Shield V3 which uses GRBL and allows for Auto Level for PCB and planned to replace the stock control boards for my CNC 3040 but having played around with Chilipepper, I'm reluctant to swap the hardware out now. I'm not really keen on Chilipepper from what I've seen and experienced of it so far. All in all these are good little machines for the money. I'm very happy with the performance of mine.

I picked up this machine during the pandemic off eBay, I got the 4 axis 3040 for 400$ which was a good deal. The planetcnc software has a issue. The manufacturer hacked it and used what I believe was the diy hardware instructions to make it work. I bought a license from planet cnc, and used zone alarm to block it from communicating with planet cnc. As they said it will self reset. Its been a few years, I like planetcnc's host software. I've made a opensource software/hardware project with info on my channel. You can add functionality like mql to the hardware and spindle control speed. Using the software project.

It can do soft metals, I have engraved aluminium and I have seen it engrave brass and copper. But keep in mind my spindle is broken and this is because its not made up to the highest of quality. Just remember this machine is for the small hobbyist but I have pushed it way past that line to were things start breaking.

Thanks for sharing ! Can you pls briefly describe limitations of the Spindle/Router in regards to wood & soft metals ? For instance I need to cut through 2cm thick wood. Can It do that ? Or you have to break it in steps with equal depth ? What type of bits should I also buy to be able to focus on wood engraving & cutting ? Thanks again.
@DanielBignoux
7 жыл бұрын
I have cut 19mm (almost 2cm) thick wood. It can be achieved just have to fine tune the machine for your needs and make sure you have the right cutting bits/endmills. When using a 10mm cutting bit my step down is from 0.5-2mm depending on speed and feed rates. Its best to test the limits as all machines have different settings and the way the motors are tuned. The first time ever using this machine I broke a endmill because of the speed n feed times. I bought both high quality and some cheap endmills mainly to test new speed n feed rates (purposely breaking them) so I can find the average speed I can cut with different materials. Look for high quality wood end mills there are a range to choose from so you will need to do some research about the different end mills for different tasks. You could also look at dremal or rotary tool bits and engraving bits. There are all types of cutting/engraving bits so find the ones that suit your project.

Hey awesome box! I just picked one of these up and built a large cabinet for it, but I think I went too big. Mine is about about: 60cm width x 76cm deep x 60cm tall. Is yours about the same size?
@DanielBignoux
7 жыл бұрын
mine is 53cm Width 65cm Deep 47cm Tall. I reused what ever wood I had laying around, I wish I made mine slightly bigger as the gap between the box and the motors is less then a 1cm. Very tight fit, also makes it hard because I cant clean the sides or the back without removing the machine from the box. The size of your box is spot on. If you have room to fit your hands around the sides or the back when you drop a nut/bolt, then your good ;)

Great demo, really neat machine! I'm thinking of getting one of these and for the price I can't go wrong, but...I'm curious if there is a way to tighten up the play easily without swapping everything out and the spindle noise I can put up with but would like to not have it there, any ideas? An idea for the box, try sound dampening on the inside walls, might help, just an idea.

I use Vcarve, SO what I do is once the model has been positioned, select it then go to the 2d veiw. In the top left under 3D modeling tools, click Create vector boundary from selected components ( its the one with the blue out line around it). Then treat it like a profile vector, adding tabs and cutting on the outside of the line so it doesn't cut your model.
