Sorry for the intervention. I'm gettin my freeform dreads since 4 months ago, and I'm a marine biologist. About your question, I depends of the kind of job, for example, last year I got a biologist office job (my worst job ever) and I've got to look hipocritically "nice", now my new job is in the mouth of a river working with fishermen and my boss doesnt have problems with biologists with dreads. Let dem grow!!!

It is so hard to find Caucasians on here that have THICK dreadlocks. My sections, from what I've been told are large. They're only 3 weeks old, and they have so much more time to thicken. I did get a bit worried with them, I was getting a lot of negativity. But I chose to look for others with thick dreads, and now I love them. You're prime example :D They look wonderful :D And have so much personality :D Keep us updated!

Just do one hair at a time man, it may take a while but it will work out. I know exactly what you mean, and I had a lock that was pretty much close together and decided to rip it in half, it just takes time. And yes if you rip it like that it's going to hurt a little....it doesn't mean it will damage the hair if you do it carelessly...but go for it if that's what you have to do.

@enayes3 One thing that needs mentioned if anything: Once it starts to lock up, if there are sections that you don't want to form with other locks, just gently pull out the hairs that are bridging one lock from another, avoiding pulling it off your head. :-)
@eyeheartchrist
13 жыл бұрын
@LeftAstray I believe,based on the videos,the 1 year mark would be the time I would officially deem it to be locked up.The roots never lock up,they might seem to at times(not anymore for me),but since it's the new hair,it still needs to reach to a certain length until that loose hair is locked with the rest of the lock.Upside down Y's,not much one can do about that,unless you were to use loose hair from that area to crochet it together.It's hard on the hair to mess with it alot,so be careful.
@MotörheadMickey

hey i've been following your posts for some time and i have to say, they look pretty much like you'd expect the ''neglected'' ones to look. pretty cool. i have started mine with the backcombing and that was it. never done any palm rolling or never added anything stupid in them and i'm loving the way they are looking these days (had them for a year). so i would recommend the ''neglect'' method but maybe not to begin with. well that's my opinion anyway...

@eyeheartchrist
14 жыл бұрын
if you feel any hairs bridging two locks together, whichever lock it's from, bridging to...pull those hairs out of the one it's trying to bridge to. Check around the base of each lock as well. That's the best way I know how, and it's just how you feel it on your head where to plot which should form together or not. :-)
@eyeheartchrist
14 жыл бұрын
@roscherjt feel free to check out the comments made before you, because i have answered your questions in some of them. Basically I don't comb it, only wash it when it needs washed, check to make sure locks aren't forming with other locks(unless you want certain locks to form together). The way to do that is check for hairs bridging one to another, carefully pulling them out of the locks it's trying to form to. :-)

@emosk8r3 And with washing it, only apply shampoo to the scalp, and lightly massage the scalp to work off the flakes if there are any. Don't worry about applying shampoo to the hair because it will rinse through the hair and get cleaned in the process. When drying, spend some time hand squeezing it out from root to tip, mine takes around 5 minutes if I take my time, which beats using multiple towels to get it somewhat dry. Repeat with a towel, hand squeezing the locks with a towel. Allow to dry.

Rinse it again! ha I've had that issue before..just pick it out if you can, and rinse it good if you have the time, but if you don't have time right now then it's not going to hurt it...I know it's been a couple of a days since you have asked it, i've went through this more than a few times...Of course if it doesn't rinse out after a while then try doing an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse for good measure.

@tnorton314 the roots never really lock up, except hairs from other locks try to bridge over to other locks, so all I do it pull those out of the locks they are trying to bridge to. As far as dandruff, I don't think scratching it out would help, just wash it if it's really bad. However, just shake the flakes out, I have to atleast once every couple of days...I think around my forehead is the problem mostly. :-)

@123cordero It's not "dreaded" at the roots. There will always be loose hair at the roots and tips because the roots are new hair that is yet to be locked. It does indeed lock with them after it grows for a while. And I don't wear caps or anything. There will always be loose hair no matter who you ask, unless it has been crocheted(which destroys hair)

@VillanThaHero And honestly dude, if you're a guy with dreadlocks, and have done so for 5 years, why are you so afraid of trying out neglect? Are you too impatient? Because you'd be shocked when you find out how badass they look. How would you know how the natural method works unless you tried it? As fast as you think your hair is dreading by maintaining them, you don't understand how much dreading actually goes on by leaving them the hell alone. The bonds between the hairs are so much stronger.

I don't understand why people are under the impression that individuals who lock their hair don't wash their hair and I guess all individuals who don't have locs wash their hair regularly...I always hear and see comments about ppl NOT washing their hair when it comes to locs as if everyone who doesn't wear locs are washing their hair on a regular basis. Whatever, regularly washing your hair is...that's different for different ppl whether their hair is in locs or not.
