Just came across your channel the other day and been going through your videos. I'm a self taught deer only taxidermist and I really only do a handful of them every year, but I have been doing them for some 25 plus years. So since the internet came about, I would scour about trying to find any good tips/videos on the craft. Amazingly there hasn't been any real high quality in depth videos to speak of. Until I came across yours. And what is amazing to me is how similar yours and my technics are, really almost scary. Anyway I just really want to thank you, and I appreciate that you have taken time out to document some of the processes. It well done, informative, and top notch work. May the Good Lord multiply his blessings on you.

Your videos are awesome... Been watching you for about a month now.. sometimes I'll find myself watching the same video just to refresh my memory while I take notes. Plan on getting into it slowly. Getting supplies and tools I need and all that before I start practicing. You explain everything so well. Honestly out of everything I'm taken in and between notes and your videos, I feel super confident in doing it and eventually getting to where I wanna be at it but I swear the only thing I feel like will take me the longest to figure out is sewing it back together. I wish there was an in depth slow pace video that really shows the technique... How you start the thread and how to end it and everything in between. Anyways thanks for all the help and the tips and the time you take for all the newcomers who wanna learn.

My biggest, also my 1st buck, dressed at 303lbs (back in 2000, just outside Leavenworth KS). Stupidly, in my youthful exuberance, I literally lobbed an arrow at him...dumb luck had the arrow pierce his heart. Anyway, the guy I took him to couldn't find a form big enough, and the next few sizes down were on back order. I wanted him on my wall ASAP, regrettably...a lot of hide got cut away and he's a lot smaller than he should be.

Love your videos. Would love to see one were you explain the eye to ear gap length and how much play you can get away with from the cape as well as the length from end of nose to front of eye. Example: if your form is 1/4 smaller than your cape measurements I assume you will be ok?
@thecedarridgechronicles

Yes that is definitely the case a lot. Always try and go a size smaller rather than bigger, and the cape will shrink to fit. I'll try and make a video explaining. Thanks!

After cutting mine off the head, I cut off all the meat and remove the membrane that is between the brain and the skull. Then I wash it and I'll put Borax on the cap to dry it out. When I'm ready to mount I'll clean the cap and antlers and trim the cap to fit the head.

The Taxidermist said it was the in the top 2 biggest deer he had ever had come to his shop. He had a Ohio 15 point on the wall that Weighed 275lbs and said my deer was way bigger. Funny thing is it had about the same size rack as the deer in the video.

And that’s why I hate bow hunters. We have better means to humanly kill. Bow hunters cripple way too many animals. The only reason we have bow season forced on us is to see bows and equipment. I’m sick of seeing wounded deer and killing deer,only to find they are spoiled with huge infections from arrows.
