Nicely done, I'm glad that one pulled through with a decent result, it's one of my favorites in the group.

Not an Issue, and no problem, I'm just loving the series and am glad the Federal held it's own.

Very speedy! This model has given me some real challenges and punches well above its weight. I really like the standard level of security these Federal locks offer

THanks... I found that this lock really likes stout tension until you fall into a false set. That helps quite a bit.

Wow. I have two massive Federal padlocks here and that little thing owns the both of them. :)

This keyway looks identical to the American with the same limitations where 0.025" picks fit but have horrible feedback. The plug is different but very similar except for actuator.

Agreed. The keyway is nearly identical to the American, even down to the spacing in which you can fit a .025" pick, but a .018" works much better.

I don't know why but I usually see the anti-bump pin in the second to last chamber and it just seems like the perfect spot, depending on the bitting. Now seeing it towards the front of the lock, although I can't see any reason it should matter, it just seems like it's better towards the back. I know how stupid this sounds after I wrote it but I'm not erasing it, lol. I do love seeing the countermilling to compliment it. I wonder if some companies think it works by it being reduced it should fall back in the sheer instead of the initial placement of it not resting on the keypin. ( ramblings of a mad man )

Not really sure other than to say that it's the lack of direct contact between the key and driver pin that makes this work... at least that's my understanding.

Nice! I learn something on every video you make. 1 question though. What is an anti bump pin? Or maybe more accurately, what makes that pin an anti bump pin. it just looked serrated. I really appreciate your effort in keeping the content not only regular but both knowledgeable and entertaining as well. Thanks!

Thanks. Regarding the anti-bump pin, look around the 4:00 mark of video #304 for a short discussion of these types of anti bump pins. It's also very similar to the Master Lock "BumpStop" pin... if you Google "BumpStop," you can find some animations on how it works.

Is that keyway shaped 'F' for 'Federal'? Or am I reading to much into that after seeing the 'ABUS'-shaped and the 'ML'-shaped ones?

I can't remember if you were figuring in points for key retaining/non-key retaining or not. I guess most would prefer key retaining over non. But I really think it's what the user needs that counts.
@lockpickinglawyer

I'm not counting that in the scoring. They are just different... not better or worse.

LockPickingLawyer I prefer NKR because it gives either myself or someone I designate the freedom to lock it up without the key being present. However, if the application is something like a locker, then I suppose one could end up accidentally locking the key inside. KR prevents such a catastrophe. (But who needs a steenkeeng key anyway?)

I know this will probably never be seen as this is an old video, but I’m a somewhat beginner at picking. I have a lot of 10 of these padlocks available at a very reasonable price ($35 CAD), but I’m not sure if they will be pickable for me, or if perhaps they’ll be above my skill level. Any thoughts?

Hmmm. "This is the 10th padlock in the series" -- it's video 9 on the playlist, and 1 was a scoring update, so does that mean 2 videos have been removed?

I haven't counted the videos, but the Master Lock video had 2 padlocks (basically the same one twice).

This lock should've gotten 13 points on the pinning, you didn't credit the short key pin in slot 1 for serrations like you did 2 and 4.
