I forgot to mention that this projector was not designed to read the optical sound tracks! However, it can be done easily in software if using it as a scanner using the AEO-Light application.

@Chicken Scratching great question! I was planning on making a video about that in the near future, it’s very cool. How they did it they actually record audio separate usually. A light would shine at a shutter-type gate and move up and down based on the audio being sent to it. This light would be aimed at a moving strip of film, so you get those weaving lines on the film. To play it back is reversed. Light shines at it (called an exciter lamp) and would be projected on a solar panel type device, that read the voltage of the intensity of the light going through the audio track. This could then produce audio. This is also the very basic description. As for keeping room on the film. Generally cameras just wouldn’t record image on the left side or in printing the film they would shift the image around

In fact, in the Netherlands they used to make pics at traffic lights (for speeding cars or not stopping at a red light) on 35 mm film. Possibly this kind of projector was used for (manually) read out the information of the pictures (such as date, time, licence plate) in order to send a fine.

Cool projector! do you have any plans to add an optical sound reader to it so you can view 35mm in your home? it would certainly be a great project. have a great day, Kyle! great purchase

Wow I totally forgot to mention that it doesn't have a sound reader! That is a good project idea! As for the scanning, there is some software, AEO-Light, that can process the images of the optical soundtrack and get a good re-creation, although none of the Dolby Stereo. I will pin a comment with that additional detail, thanks for watching!

Hello! So sadly I am not sure, a local film scanner was getting rid of it and gave it to me. I have found on on eBay for 16mm recently but that is about it. There doesn’t seem to be too many of them around, and they were usually owner by a company or government. I’m sure you can still find some floating around from government liquidation sites etc or keep checking eBay!

Why do film have to pass through many loops like that?
@KyleMiko
10 ай бұрын
The film is constantly moving, yet the image has to stop moving to be shown. The trick is to have an upper and lower loop, which allows for the film to bulid up and get pulled when it has its turn in the light. So, the loops allow for film to always move, while the intermittent sprocket can have a moment to freeze the frame

The scanner honestly has a lot of problems, it’s massive and heavy, and vibrates a lot in its current setup. I’m not sure you want it 😂
