I love my 350 legend, it works amazing. But i think Remington was brilliant using .358 projectiles for the 360 bh. That's what winchester should have done with the 350 legend. Don't get me wrong, every deer I've harvested with my 350 has dropped dead in it's tracks, but i wish i had the ability to use the proven bullets in the .358 range.
@arthurshingler2025
Жыл бұрын
I agree. Because Winchester was determined to make an AR cartridge, using "stuff" that they conveniently had on hand at the time.... they made the Legend in a 9mm, that used a similar case (but NOT the same...) as the 223 case. I personally like Remington's Buckhammer approach, better. I don't hunt much with an AR. Perhaps, a better approach would have been a .348" bullet, using the exact same case as the 223?? A straight walled case, called the 348 Legend. The killing results would have been the same, and it might make handloading it easier. And.... what's more Winchester than a 348??? That's already their caliber size!

@Alfs_Armory
Жыл бұрын
@@dickdastardly8150 not sure what you mean by Higher tolerances. You mean tighter tolerances or more chamber pressure? I doubt either since it is running in a lever platform. The bullet is only 0.002 inch larger in diameter (and actually some hand loader run .357, but there is the potential for dangerous pressure spikes with that). I can’t see any ballistic advantage over .350 Legend, which leaves deer DRT (Dead Right There). The rim makes it more suited for levers, especially if you run a round nose. Would also make it well suited for revolvers and break actions as well.
@dickdastardly8150
Жыл бұрын
@@Alfs_Armory from my research. The 360 is .09 inches longer as well to accommodate a larger projectile or powder if you reloaded. Being that it's parent case is a 30-30 there are many possibilities, at almost ten percent a lot can happen. The 360 at 358 also gives better terminal shock and broader expansion. And yes by tolerance I was referring to pressure. But research is also showing me the 350 legend does produce more pressure. Keep in mind it's running in a semi platform, some residual pressure may bleed off running the system. While the relatively new 360 is only 5k behind in pressure in it's base form. Accompanied by a lever gun no pressure is wasted. Won't be long until people and possibly other companies start producing there own hotrod ammo. Imagine underwood 360 or black butterfly 360. Even Remington themselves could make some crazy nitro load if they wanted to, this is only the beginning. And I'm impressed, not at all skeptical. I see a lot for this round. Wait till the revolver hunters catch on.

The old Ballards. In black or smokeless? It's late not trying to get out the newton force calculator at the moment but I can tell from some mild research. The 360 offers more ballistics, not by a huge margin but more. I'd say imo they greater significance would be availability. Ballards are almost collectible and not many people reloading that, not that I know of at least. Would be interesting though, could even throw in 357 maximum if you could find them.

Given that it operates at speeds in the same ballpark as .30-30, .32 Special, and .35 Remington we are not going to see anything real unusual terminally here. It uses the same design Remington Core-Lokt bullet that has been loaded for around 8 decades in .35 Remington and others in this class of cartridge. And there will soon be others makers getting in on the market too. Bullets operating in this speed range aren't overly stressed on impact so I predict any that hit the market are going to work great. I predict this cartridge having great success in the field and marketplace. It was designed to fulfill a regulatory hunting requirement but it's also giving buyers some very proven performance numbers.

Killed my second buck this season with the same .358 200 gr Remington Core-lokt and it jumped straight up just like that! Not quite as high but he didn’t go anywhere, either! Done my research and I’m glad Remington has squeezed some more velocity out for factory ammo than the .35 Rem. Folks need to realize that unlike the 360 BHR published velocity from Remington, the Hornady Leverevolution published velocity is with a 24” barrel when our lever guns are typically only 20”. Kind of felt the new cartridge dissed my favorite woods gun but now I’m just glad Remington will continue to make the .358 200 gr bullets for them both. That Henry is one fine rifle! My buddy has one in 45/70 gov but it and his 450 BM just aren’t as efficient in converting deer to venison as the .358 cal.

I'm all for a straight wall cartridge, comparing, the 350 legend and 360 buckhammer to the 30-30 doesn't seem relevant honestly. Just me but a 30-30 is plenty gun for up to 300 hundred yards on deer. These two new entry's are a little better i assume from information I've seen. What would of made this better, being 35 caliber is a 200-220 grain bullet. I don't care if it looses energy faster, drops farther, face it,I use my 30-30 lever 20" barrel because I'm in the timber and a 100 yard shot would be extremely long. Most places i hunt are wilderness not somebody's back yard and we have some dangerous animals that pop up real close at times, at times I'm packing the 45-70 for that reason. I think the 360 would solve one thing, weight. Lighter all the way around.just would of liked a bigger bullet, maybe reloading would fix that. I'm being a little vague here, but I've ran into things out there that stopping them fast wouldn't believe your only chance on leading there alike. Let's just say, brown bears scare me the least. Now our state is all about wolves, and yesterday We're already having problems. I've lived an worked in Alaska, like i said brown bear, unless provoked, don't give you their time of day,I ran a cross them daily cutting right of way, wolves, another story. I would feel safer with the 360, with a bigger bullet.
