Here’s to Jim and those like him! A dying breed for sure. Also one of the most upbeat and heart-felt eulogies a friend could post.

That's my dream shop, right there. So many cars, so many opportunities for mods, upgrades, & tune-ups. Met a lot of Jims in the backwoods & farms of Virginia growing up in the 70s; each barn had a regular shop for the tractors and a 'secret' shop for the old Model A or 36 Roadster that was a tinkerer's special. They all smoked, supporting the state tobacco industry. And they were all the friendliest guys you'd ever met, so long as the subject stayed on cars, beer, and women that weren't their daughters.

Dear Dave, you've shared more great videos than I can count--on a multitude of topics. This video immediately shoots near the top of the heap. Total respect to you sir! I bought your "Secrets..." book on Dec 7, 2022. Every project you touch and make public is filled with wisdom, delicate sensibilities, straightforward genuine honesty, and nostalgia that still somehow remains fully-rooted in the present. You are a treasure. I wish you and your future generations continued success and, most importantly, peace and joy.

My guess is that he knew what he knew and didn’t feel the need to explain why. Thank you Jim for your service and may you rest in peace. The void is impossible to fill. Another Fred Dibnah has left, that is another story and if you curious YT search for him. Cheers

Love they way it seemed as though you were exhibiting his place (while reminiscing over him) after he was gone from this word, when, then, suddenly, at the very end, there he was, like a ghost haunting his old digs. Only then did you reveal that you had shot the whole thing prior to his passing. You got me! Great ploy!!

December 1993, my 1984 Chevy G-10 van, with a 305 V8, was diagnosed with a flat camshaft lobe. My mechanic only did external work and recommended an engine replacement. A friend suggested replacing it with his help and another friend. Jeff and "Tree" (nicknamed due to his height) were the lead mechanics since I had never done any internal engine work. Tree suggested getting an RV camshaft for better low end torque. We did that with the engine in place. At the end of each day, my arms would be covered in grease from my hands to my armpits. I found that baby oil does a better job of cleaning up, but regular soap was needed to get rid of the sickness. In Columbia, SC, Laurel Street heading west, there's an intersection with three lanes; left lane is a mandatory left turn, middle lane goes straight to Assembly St, right lane is a mandatory right turn that goes behind the governor's mansion. I was in the middle lane and this sports car convertible pulls up in the right lane. He glances up at me and I glance down at him. "Game on!" The light turns green. I go; he tries to vroom in front of me. No dice; he couldn't make it past my side passenger door. I glance back at him and he has the "oh sh*t" look.
