I certainly didn't anticipate all the hoops I would have to jump through just to get this thing from Blender to KZitem. The first problem came as soon as I tried making a quick test for rendering in panoramic: That feature does not exist for the render engine I used (Eevee), only in the beefier and more professional 'Cycles' renderer. The main difference between the two is that Cycles is superior and more realistic in almost every way, in exchange for drastically worse render times. And this scene included volumetric lighting, transluscency, and reflective surfaces, all things that make render times even worse on top of that.
It was not feasible to render a scene this scene in Cycles in a decent timeframe, so I went back to Eevee to look for a workaround. It turns out one does exist, in the form of an amazing community-made python script that can be modded into Blender. github.com/EternalTrail/eeVR
But when I tried uploading it to my channel, I ran into another problem. KZitem has a special feature it calls 'shorts' for vertical videos under a minute in length, designed for watching on mobile devices. My panoramic video is in a perfectly square aspect ratio, not vertical, but KZitem said 'eh, close enough' and automatically converted it into a short upon upload, with no way to turn it back. This messed up the 3D effect by making the sphere-projection go all wonky, and creating a comically bad seam-line at the join. I had to figure out some way to convince KZitem not to convert it into a short.
My solution was to make the aspect ratio barely horizontal, just by a matter of pixels, so it would no longer meet both criteria for KZitem shorts while still being almost square. This worked, but now there were empty columns of blank pixels on either side of the screen, which resulted in a better, but still noticeable, seam-line. I had to add in a second layer of the video playing behind the first one, scaled up just a little bit to fill in those blank pixels on the edges, to finally get it to look passable.
