Thanks for this. I've been a self-taught picker (prior LE) for a couple decades and am just dabbling into Lishi tools recently. I've ordered the six pin KW5 and SC4 and the potential torque threat of possible damage to the tools using them on five pin locks hadn't occurred to me. Much appreciated.

The KW5 lishi blade is actually thicker than a KW1 lishi blade. So you probably wont have much to worry about strength wise. But KW5 does not fit in smart key cylinders.

@@mumbles1justin so for a first purchase Kwikset keyway, getting the KW5 and just running pin 1 from the 2 position isn't the end of the world

@@ho0t0w1 that wasn't my point. the point is a KW5 lishi will not physically insert into most modern KW1 keyways. So it's physically impossible to even attempt to use the KW5 lishi on some to most modern KW1 cylinders do to the warding being narrower on modern KW1 cylinders. A couple things to note...In the video he is using an older non kwikset branded cylinder. and he just got lucky on this cylinder it appears to have been a tip stop cylinder. But KW1 keys are shoulder stopped, not tip stopped. So there's no guarantee the positions on lishi will lineup that nice on the next lock. Which could make decoding a nightmare on some cylinders. This has just been my personal experience. But do as you wish. I personally recommend having both. So save the frustration on sloppy and tight cylinders.

That's what I though but for some reason using the kw5 with a 5 pin doesnt feel right. Like the pins are a little more struggle to set and with the right lishi Kw1 the pins set way easier. I don't know why ?

Probably because the tool sticks out the lock because it’s to long and your tension it on a part of the tool not designed to be used for tensioning it.

Thought this could be done. What’s more common of a lock from kwickset 5 pin locks or 6 pins. Or do u know which contains the 6 pins?
@russej02
3 жыл бұрын
Five is most common. Way you can tell without sticking the tool in is there’s a square at the top of the Keyway. On the five pin it’s solid on the six pin it’s open. Google image search Kwikset Titan. You’ll see the difference.
