Wow, lots of info, thanks for sharing. By the looks of it we have to put a little more effort with taking care of kinky hair for length retention. But it is worth the effort, if length retention is a goal. Great video

What can we do to keep cuticle flat and retain more moisture or are you saying it's just genetics for kinky hair type
@AfrikanHairGod
10 жыл бұрын
It is just the way the the follicle of the hair is shaped, it prevent the cuticle layer from naturally laying flat. Its kinda like trying to layer bricks around a ball. there are going to be gaps. The cuticle layer is affected by pH and by temperature. I'm going to make a video going more in-depth but the using pH balanced products that are on the more acidic level will cause the hair to contract and the cuticles to lay flatter. Cold temperature also encourage the cuticles to close which is why many suggest you rinse out conditioner with cool water to close in moisture. When we use oil to "seal" in moisture in our hair, the oil sits on top of the cuticle layer, the molecules are too large to be absorbed into the hair like water (except olive, coconut, and avocado) so the oil rests in the gaps of the cuticle layer to slow down the water evaporating from our hair.

***** I know this sounds crazy, but on this video is that all your hair? The only reason I asked is because you already have long hair but from the looks of it, it grew longer. I was just comparing it to your other videos but other than that love it either way and love the video it was very helpful.

I think it's awesome that you are educating people about their hair, however as a licensed cosmetologist I do recommend you pick and choose what you share, I believe clients can know a few at home tricks but we don't want to tech them everything, we need them to come back to us for the extras, also think about what you are paying for your education and then you are turning around and giving it all away for free! You and all of us professionals are worth more then that! That is why we are the professionals, again I think it's great you are educating people but before you get to far into this series you are doing don't just give your education away! For all of our sakes and pay checks haha

Personally, I think that is a little bit selfish. Knowledge is meant to be shared, not owned and withheld.You are right, we go to school to invest in our education, but you can't put a price tag, or a license on knowledge. All of this info and everything else I share is already at their fingertips on the internet. I don't think it is right to leave folks clueless, just to have them rely on us for services. If that's the case, people wouldn't be trying to sit in my chair to get their hair done, after all of the styles, tutorials, and videos I do on haircare. They could just do it themselves, but they come to use to get an experience that they can't achieve at home. People come to us not only because of the knowledge we have in cosmetology, but our experience and expertise in what we do. I don't want to obligate my clients to have to come to me. I believe that success as a cosmetologist comes from having integrity, sincerity, and great customer service to your clients. That will keep your clients coming back even they can do it themselves at home.

I want to apologize to you for jumping down your throat the way I did in my first reply. After giving what you said some serious thought, I must say that you are absolutely right. No professional would get on a platform as this and spill all of their knowledge and expertise in their field on here, after all the time, money, research, and experience. All of that required a price to pay, and that should be expected from those that we offer our services to. Thank you for helping to open my eyes to the bigger picture of everything Eric Mills
