My maternal grandfather Arthur Bone was one of the boilermakers who built the boiler for the 3801 at the Cardiff Railway Workshops in 1937-1938. I'm so proud of the fact that his work produced the most iconic steam locomotive in Australia!

And now she's back upon the tracks, she just keeps rolling on, she beat the rest, she's still the best, 3801.

Its very nice indeed now! I still think R711's is the best sounding though but 3801 is very close second now! As for engine sounds, pains me to say it but 3801 is the best when shes notched back and in her strides! If only we still had our mexican streamlined pacific's :(

I remember walking 3 1/2km to school at Bargo Primary. The Locos would quite often be sided waiting for a Passenger to come through. Many were Quite long- over 2km easy. We knew all the Locos by their numbers. Guess which was the kid's Favorite? We were saddened when we heard they took the 38s off the line because they were too heavy apparently. That was before Thirlmere Museum. Fond memories of the 2hr+ trip to Central. We knew which carriages had the best Pics on the walls. Stick a penny on the track and deface the Queens currency ... worried all night thinking the cops would come knocking on the door ... ... My Father Fired several of the older ones, Picton to Goulborn. That kept him fit for Footy. Fond Memories brought back by this Vid. Cheers.

Should be an increase in tractive effort. Does NSW have a dynomometer car???

Yes, with 3801's boiler being returned to it's original 245 psi, the tractive effort has returned to 36,000 lbs.
