Girl even if you don't go back to work, your kids will NEVER question if you work hard or not! Being a mom is hard work! I went to college and got a bachelors degree and I still don't use it (I just have to pay for it 😑)! I started a small Etsy shop so I didn't lose my identity and it really keeps me sane! You just have to do what will make you happy and a better mommy :) I can't wait to meet her!!

Leah R That is so awesome for Canadian teachers. if you see my comment above I am also an educator. Our 12 weeks equals a third of the school year so we lose 1/3 of our pay which is debilitating. Most teachers can't afford 12 weeks off. I thought we could, but we were broke for a year afterwards so it really wasn't a great financial decision...but best wellness decision. So good Canada doesn't have the same terrible situation for it's teachers.

I'm shocked you don't get paid for the short 12 weeks you are on maternity leave if you have a provincial government job (in your case, a state government job). How it works here is your employer pays for your maternity leave, which I believe works our to be 6 months and then your employee insurance pays the rest which is not the same amount as your regular pay but it works out to be about 80% of your pay. Hopefully, Trump makes a change so Mama's can be there for their child in the most important first year of their life.

I've actually been in "early labor" for three days now and am 4-4.5 cm! Just needing things to kick in a tad stronger!!!! I'm kind of like you... ready to meet her but still trying to soak in all the time with my 3 year old, Brynli!!!! This "end stage" definitely is bringing mixed emotions!!!! Praying for you and your labor and delivery and can't wait to see your sweet girl!!!!! You're almost done mama!!!!

In Mexico, maternity leave is 84 days, 12 weeks with 100% of wage paid. These weeks are placed 6 weeks before the due date and 6 weeks after the due date. You can take your maternity leave like that, or you can transfer maximum 4 weeks from before to after the due date. That would be the best if you feel great and want to spend more time with your newborn. However, I couldn't transfer any because I started having that stabbing pain in my pelvis and stoped being able to walk and do my job as a teacher of six year old children. It's not enough time to heal, but at least it's totally paid.

In Australia we get 18 weeks paid by the government at the minimum wage. I went back to work at 18 weeks just part time from home and went back full time at 6 months. I really think at least 12 months are needed! Wishing you all the best, can't wait to meet Presley!

All the best with your delivery and meeting your new baby girl! I am now 29 weeks with baby girl #3! I also live in Canada and will be taking my third one year maternity leave. Not sure how my employer feels about it but overall they have been pretty good. Our Government gives 55% of our wage/salary but there is a max amount and I believe it's around 543.00 weekly? I truly feel for you and can imagine it's hard to get 3 months with your new baby. I hope that all changes soon for U.S moms and babies

Hi, I live in Sweden(I am originally from Finland) and it is a bit complicated to explain how it works here but basically you can stay at home at least for 18months. The government gives you 480 paid days which you can split with your partner as you like(dad has 60 days which he cannot give away to the mother, you could say that the 60 days often in practice means 12 weeks of parental leave). You can then choose how many days per week you want to get paid and if you wish to stay home as long as possible you could take only 1day/week which is not a lot of money but makes the days last longer(these so called days are not so much money so you would never earn the same amount in a month as you do when working even if you would take out the max amount 5 days a week). A lot of companies also compensate so that for 6months the part that government pays and the company compensation together will be 90% of your regular salary! A lot of people save some of the 480 days to later use(after they start working again) since you are allowed to use them until your child is 8 years. It is convenient to have those days saved since you have right to take out those days when ever you need to and you employer cannot say no to that. And this might be needed when your kids have holiday from school and you need to be at home with them but you might not have regular vacation days left to use. Hopefully this gives you a better picture how it works in Sweden! Hopefully you are able to enjoy your last days before Presley decides to arrive! You are such a happy, positive and energetic mama so if someone, you are able to do it all!

Hi Brianna! I feel so sorry for mamas in the U.S. because you guys have such an inhumane amount of time for maternity leave! You are totally justified in feeling that way. For such a progressive country, the U.S. is very behind in that area (a lot of other countries in Europe and Scandinavia have 12-24 months paid parental leave, including my country. I did a lot of research when I was on my 1st maternity leave 2 years ago. I think France is 3 months as well though). 3 months is SO not enough; babies still need their moms so much at that point, and they're usually not sleeping through the night yet which makes it so hard on you going back to work full-time. I'm from Canada where maternity leave is 12 months, and right now our new government is trying to make it 18 months, which I think will happen if the new budget gets passed soon. While 12 months is amazing, I personally didn't go back to work when my 1st baby was 12 months old because I felt she was still too young and needed me too much, even at that age. She wasn't walking yet, and it may sound silly but I really didn't want to miss her first steps! I found a new job when she was 18 months old and I felt like she was a much better age then; she could do so much more and understand so much more. I just had my 2nd baby, he's 5 months old now, and I still have another 7 months of maternity leave left. I don't feel stressed at all; I feel like there's still so much time left. I really feel for you! Don't feel guilty about leaving work, your work as a mom is the most important work you'll ever do, and your co-workers will understand one day when they have kids themselves, so enjoy what little time you have off. You should be entitled to more! We can't get this time back with our babes and the U.S. should recognize their mothers more (I think it helps the guilt be alleviated when the culture is used to a longer maternity leave - everyone in Canada expects moms to take 12 months so we expect it too. If it was a shorter time like 3 months, I can see why people wouldn't be as understanding, if that makes sense. But 3 months doesn't make sense!). You still have an exciting time to look forward to. I can't wait to meet baby Presley. I pray you have a safe delivery, and enjoy the transition to 2 (it's awesome!). I love your videos; I subscribed back when you had under 3000, and I can't wait to see more! Love relating to other women in the same season of life. Wow that was long, sorry!

I live in England ,and my brothers` children are younger than mine ,so i can only go by their leave. Both received 39 paid weeks ,which is incredible as when mine were born it was around 12 weeks ,for mum ,and ,for husbands`/partners ,just 3/6 wks ,deppending on your work. For me ,3 months wouldn`t have been enough ,except that i did childcare at home (childminding ,registered)..I`d never been career minded ,so intended to be a stay at home mum.I know it`s not for everyone ,and respect that. However ,because it was always my dream,i was very fortunate in being able to still help financially ,but remain home with my babies ,as they e ach came along:) I`m fairly new to your channel ,so am wishing you the very best with your labour and delivery of your new baby girl..x

In Australia mums have to stop working 3 weeks before the due date meaning that pregnant women more than 37 weeks are not allowed to work and neither are they allowed back to work before a minimum of 6 weeks, as for how long we get maternity leave I am not 100% sure. I wish you all the success with the last few days of your pregnancy and pray that Presley is healthy. I've just found your channel but I'm so glad I did, your family is adorable

I was ready to go back to work at 14 weeks (I got some "bonus" time since the holidays were in the middle of my leave), but I wasn't ready to leave my baby yet! At 10 weeks I felt like I could have gone back to work if I'd had to, but I really think that anything less than that is so unreasonable. I feel so much for the moms who have to go back at 6 weeks (and I know some go back even earlier).

I think maternity leave should be one year at at least 50% of your pay. My baby will be 7 weeks tomorrow and I'm taking 10 weeks off work. A small part of me looks forward to going back because I worked hard for my degree and I feel good about myself to earn a great salary and use my education. On the other hand my first job is being a mommy and I'm so sad to leave my babies. I have loved being home with them and it breaks me heart to be gone for long hours and miss so much of their lives. I think being a working mom is so hard but sometimes it's the best choice for a lot of families for the mom to work. I hope everything goes great for you and Presley arrives safe and healthy! You're so close!

I worked at small company and I had the same feelings you had when I left work for maternity leave. I remember having to hire an admin person to kind manage some of the things I was doing and feeling like the person I hired just wasn't catching on and feeling all this guilt about it. I had a scheduled induction and I to be at the hospital at 8pm and I was still working at 7pm that day I had decided to take 6 weeks. So six weeks went by and I felt ready but as soon as I got to the office I just got very emotional and I just felt like I had made a big mistake and that it was too soon. Although it was only 6 weeks, going back with the baby at home was a HUGE adjustment, and I almost felt like I should have eased back into it. Like maybe after that 6 weeks working a couple weeks half days or only 3 days a week would have been a much better choice. And i am afraid that if I would have stayed home longer it would have been just that much harder to go back, so it's tough. I do feel like being at worked I missed so many moments and I'm afraid the guilt pushes both ways. You feel guilt you're not at home and you feel guilty you're at work.

I think I would have been in a better place to return at 6 months. I had 4 months with my son and definitely wanted more as well as probably needed more. I am an educator and my son was born in early summer so I had 8 weeks of summer plus the full 12 weeks leave. With our next baby I will probably only get 7 weeks after doing the math with our budget. I didn't realize with our first how much income I'd lose in 12 weeks. I get paid year-round but only work the school year. Twelve weeks is 1/3 my salary lost. I was actually back at work Nov. 8 and didn't get any paycheck until Jan. 15th (because of days missed from work). Then anytime I needed to be out sick or for doctor after that I lost over $250 from my paycheck since my sick days were depleted. That blows my mind to think how brief 7 weeks will be next time, but anything longer would be a financial nightmare. I am right there with you in wanting to impact US maternity leave laws.

I went back to work at 4 weeks post partum, as a waitresss, and had to get additional stitches at my 6 week check up. I worked the dinner shift before my daughter was born, too As a young single mom money is tight, but there was no option to stay home longer. The US has to come up with some sort of paid leave for parents, and especially because FMLA doesn't guarantee everyone the right to maintain there job.

Wow I can't imagine leaving my baby at 3 months!!! :( OMG That would be so hard. I still stay home and my daughter Giavanna is 17 months lol I couldn't imagine someone else being more familiar with her routine, with her preferences, with her personality... 40 hours is a huge chunk of a one week period. And I know that because when my baby girl's dad comes home I get so annoyed with him sometimes because he'll try to do something and I'm just like no that's not her routine, that's not how we do things. I know it's not his fault he doesn't know but it's just frustrating that he misses so much. He took 4 months off of work after she was born and during that time (I was also recovering from my first cesaren delivery and i think i had a little bit of baby blues too) she was sooo much closer to him than she was to me! They had such a strong bond i couldn't believe it. i am grateful that he did that so she could get to know him before he was gone 5, 6, sometimes 7 days a week.... We could use the money for both of us to be working But I won't let anyone else watch her (besides her father of course) until she's at least 2 or 3. Trust me there is NO ONE that treats your child the same when you're away, as they do when you're present. I'm 100% sure of that. And I don't just mean that in a 'being mean to them' way, or sexual predator way, but also not caring for them the way the parent does, and not keeping that same routine, same rules, etc. I won't let my daughter stay with anyone not even for a few hours, not a babysitter, nanny, day care provider, grandparent, nothing. When she can tell me what goes on while I'm not around, then I will definitely feel more comfortable to leave her with the Christian day care center near my house, or someone reputable, for 3-4 days a week. What can i say we had the daycare provider that was raping toddlers and filming it for her significant other's pleasure. Then the daycare provider at the so-called "elite" or "uppity" daycare center that was torturing children. Have to have your guard up at all times in this day & age.

I’m in Canada where we have the option of taking a 12 month or 18 month paid maternity leave. I’m due on June 29, 2018 and I’ll be returning to work August 15, 2019. 3 months wouldn’t be nearly long enough!

hello! I have a wonderful little girl named Poppy. She was 6lbs 2oz. She was born by C-section because of placenta previa. C-section was actually great and I healed so quickly. I am from Canada and we get 12 months maternity leave. You can now actually take 18 months, but your employment insurance (EI) payment breaks up the money you would receive from the 12 months over 18 months so it's really not affordable to be honest. But a lot of daycares won't take infants until 18 months so we momma's will do what we have to do. EI only pays 55% of your income (and it's capped off for salaries more than 45,000 a year) so it can be tight if you are the bread winner of your family (like myself), but your partner can take any unused leave as well. In terms of the right amount of time, I was only going to take 6 months because I am the bread winner and I also work for a small company, but I started getting extreme anxiety about going back to work so I decided that I needed to take the full 12 months. It was the best decision. My daughter is now 9 months old and I do think I could be emotionally ready to return to work, but I want to take advantage of the time I am allowed to spend with her. I was thankfully able to find a daycare that will take her at 12 months when I return to work, so that is very lucky, although it will be pretty expensive until she turns 18 months and the price is reduced. Long story short, the more time the better. It's always a shame though that the decision always has to come down to money.

I should also mention that it is the law for your job to hold your job for you while you are on maternity leave and they cannot fire you for being pregnant or on maternity leave :)

This country is so unfair...I think we should def get a year ..the least 6 months pay . My company didn't support any maternity leave at all . Killed me going back to work so soon .

I'm also taking 12 weeks but my boss(male lifetime bachelor) doesn't understand why I would take that long he would prefer 6-8 weeks... not happening 12 weeks for sure.

I only got 6 weeks after my baby was born =( It was definitely no where near long enough. I think every mom should get a year of leave and dads should get at least a month. My fiance was only able to take 2 weeks off one of which was unpaid.

Sorry your not feeling good. I am 39 weeks on day 3 and I still haven't had any dilation. This is my first pregnancy so maybe that's why it is taking me a lot longer foe that to happen. I have had Braxton hicks contractions, cramping and lightening pains but are not consistant. I just get so frustrated when I think she's coming but doesn't as well as family and friends asking is she here yet etc.

Its so sad. In South Africa you entitled to 4 months unpaid maternity leave. No company is obliged to pay your salary on maternity leave. Some companies are nice and will pay. But mostly it is unpaid. 😥 but maternity leave is about 4 months. I feel it should be 12 months.

I love that you said you got your degrees for a purpose, and plan on continuing working. Where I live, it's almost expected that you stay home and be the soccer mom. I do come from an upper middle class small town outside NY city, and the families can ford to do this. But I have a BA, and 2 MS degrees, and when I have kids, I don't want them going to waste. Like you said, we go to school for a reason. I also think you are going to be a great role model for little Presley...

From New Zealand and I'm pretty sure its six months paid leave. But your job has to be open for you to return after a year, if you choose to take a year.

Here in sweden parents(not only mothers) are entitled to 480 days of payed (390 days aprox 80% of your regular salary) parental leave, 90 days of those are reserved for the father. This is including if you are adopting as well as having a biological child.

My due date was may 17 but I had my little girl on May 3. It was actually my induction date but she started the process the night before. She was born at 38 weeks and her name is Maddyn. This is the very first time I get 12 weeks off which at first seems long but now I can tell it will be not enough. No time off is long enough but we have to do do what we have to do. 4-6 months I think is adequate but we won't get that in the us anytime soon
