(This is just a 'drive-by' comment.) I haven't watched much of the video, but after seeing the thumbnail image and clicking on it, I just had to say that you build amazing stuff, and your videos inspire me to learn a lot more and to put that knowledge into practice in my own sim, which is very much in the planning stages. WOW.... As an engineer of 40 years, it really takes allot to catch my attention, let alone, hold my attention. I have spent almost all of my life time cramming info into my dinky bean brain. Now, with that said, I am highly and exceptionally impressed with this. The video editing is top notch on the audio and video. You explained what you were doing at an elementary level, that allot of high IQ people fail to be able to do and you did that wonderfully. You didn't take for granted that somebody "just already knows what you know as second nature". I would like to thank you for the amount of time that you set aside to make this happen as that I can only assume, was well over 200 hours, if not more than that over the years of honing the R&D aspect of this design. I was thoroughly entertained. I even learned a few things from your video here today. Thank you. This was an easy click to subscribe to your channel and I look forwards to the next videos of this simulator build. I did I quick skim-through of your older video titles, just to see what you have showcased already, I think I will enjoy watching those as well. Well done.

Two years ago I flew S58's for a summer drying cherries. It was impressive how much of a difference a correlator makes, and ultimately I didn't notice a whole lot of difference flying without a governor. I didn't anticipate just how much it would cost to order the large variety of nuts and bolts, mis-identified switches and buttons (finding equivelants on US amazon/ebay) among many other twists and turns. You made this look so easy and here, after all that, I'm almost there! I can't wait to get the set all plugged in and calibrated! just waiting on the stepper drivers and we're off!

I ran into a few small quirky issues. the ones primarily giving me problems are the springs. I just can't seem to find springs to match the ones you've used and either mine are too strong or soft for the application. The worst offender has been the cyclic spring attached to the frame. I've also printed the collective grip a couple of times and the tolerances for the heatset inserts just are too large and I haven't found a good work-around that doesn't involve modifying the stls. I love the design though and all I have left for the set is wiring everything up.

AMAZING design job, assembly and presentation. I wish there was a detailed description of the purpose of the "Force Feel" system. Presumably, it produces the aerodynamic forces present in a helicopter in flight; but it isn't clear to me how these forces effect movement of the Collective . Also, there's a comment toward the end of the video that due to the high forces involved 'most pilots release the "Force Feel" whenever they are moving the Collective. So the "Force Feel" system keeps the Collective from moving away from its present set position if released? *If* I understand correctly, in a real helo; the Collective is free-moving with an adjustable friction control to maintain its present position without applying constant pressure, and these high forces don't exist during Collective movement?

First off, awesome engineering, build, and video! I've already printed the collective and throttle. I did resin for the grip and a few small parts too. I'm having trouble with the counterbalance springs. Do you know what size you actually used? I've tried all the springs in the Amazon assorted spring kit. They are either too weak and don't do anything, or too strong and make the collective float at the top but never return to it's resting position. I can't get it just right where it returns to its lowest position but just helps it stay up when raised. At this point I'm buying individual random springs on Amazon until I get it right.

Better yet would be some round aviation style connectors. I’d be super tempted to make it easy to swap out different handles for different helicopters. You can get these pretty cheap from Aliexpress. What about simulating the feeling in the yoke from a loss of control surface authority at low speeds?

I would like to know this as well. I belive we have 220x220 mm available printspace. Sufficient for this project? Thanks again for your superb work!!

Hello all, Im afriad this cannot be created on the ender 3. It requires a 300 x 300mm build plate. That of a Creality CR10 or similar. Usually i would try to split the parts for smaller machines, but this streses involved are huge on the 3d printed parts. You proabably can see that due to the size of the parts. Kind Regards, Karl

For anyone wanting to build a decent cheap heli simpit pop me an email, mine cost under $200 modifying hall sensor usb handbrakes into a set of pedals and a collective level to a wooden chair and frame with a thrustmaster for cyclic; I'm happy to help and give advice, product recommendations etc

Buy VR, please. It is another level game expirience. One time i try and now cant see how people playing on flat screen in 2023. Just try it and you can't never be back on tv. I know, i have 65 inch LG Oled 4K 120hz refresh rate game TV. And difference between screen with my hp reverb G2 is so big. In VR screens is like 2010, old matrix with 2k resolutin each with low brightnes and very bad black color.... But when you in VR- you are not playing- you are in game!!! It flights it is very very very BIG difference, try it and you will be happy!!! But hp reverb g1 or g2 is best choise for less than 2500$. RTX 3080 is enought to play on normal quality. On top quality 4090 is now enought for DCS or MFS2020. That why you no need 4090, but VR is MUST HAVE!

Hello, thank you for the suggestion, but i already have it. I certainly do not have a 4090 though. Thats out of my budget!

confused... @16:30 you called it a hall sensor... well hall sensors normally work with magnets on either side, and they are small... yours, it's big, then you fitted a gear onto it and called it a hall pot... which it looks like more...

Can you make the Apache cyclic and collective? Komodo is charging $1000 for each. Many people will buy your STL files if you make Apache controllers.

LOL, this has to be the most requested design so far! I need to pester my old work colleagues and ask to get on an apache!
@simpitacademy

@@helimech8152 You don't need access to the real apache. We don't need them super accurate to the real thing. There are people who already designed the controllers. You can see on DCS forum and reddit etc. and some even shared the files on thingiverse. But no one does it as nicely and completely as you. I think you can modify and improve them from there. It's so in demand. Something like the one you created here for the MSFS standard will already be awesome. Even if you charge 10x more than your usual rate of STL files people will pay coz it's still much cheaper than Komodo and Max Flight Stick both asking for $2K plus for cyclic and collective. I wish I have your kind of skills.

not sure how easy this would be with dcs, but with the msfs2020 blender plugin you can import any aircraft into blender... now you can take whatever part you want like panels, yoke, rudder pedals, trim wheels... etc and 3d print them at perfect scale.

I want to try to build one! What's the bed size of your printer? I think I won't be able to print the larger side plates I believe. My printer is 220 by 220 only.

I'm modifying an old Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback stick at the moment. Have you tried using one as a cyclic?
@helimech8152
Жыл бұрын
Hello, and no I have not tried the side winder option. I may be missing out. But I wanted the heli controls to feel like the real thing so decided to go my own way. i'm not sure that the side winder can do that. This was just my take on producing something a real pilot would say, yep that's how it should feel. And even then, that's the problem with creating a is gel unit for multiple aircraft, they all feel different and have different forces involved. However, I can say this is how the basic principle works. Thank you for taking the time to comment, kind regards karl

@@helimech8152 it's a brilliant solution you've put together. I'm sure it is far superior to the sidewinder option but have a look at sidewinder extension videos. I want to put an extension between the base and a new stick, much like the one you have here but not quite as long.

I suggest using inexpensive pipe cleaner brushes inside the springs to silence them, as well as putting heatshrink on the ends.

If this is the status of the mechanical situation in helicopters things are bad indeed. Helicopters should be easy to fly!!!! Why don't the mechanics come up with some stabilized flymode once and for all????? This is crazy. Helicopter seems to be about to tip over and crash at any given moment.
