With Route 4, we now proceed into forest land and high cliffsides.
The trees are split half-and-half partial vertical cylinders to make a whole. It's here where the first issue presents itself; the dreaded solid color tile that's overused between foreground and background.
However being that the stage is mostly blue background, a lot of the black gaps can be outright eliminated and the HUD can be reduced to bare minimum. There's still issues where black tile can be seen on the edge of the screen in awkward spots but it's not terribly gamebreaking.
It's here I create a unique mechanic of hills with "table top" platforms. This is to minimize overlap with main characters but providing a stable enough floor for the character to stand on.
I probably could have used the multi-depth script in this instance but I went with this and coupled it with the overlap script to maximize the main sprites visibility.
That said, this is an extremely short video as I just end up doubling back rather than proceed to the next area. And I hang on the map screen a little long by the end.
It makes sense when you see it in action.
