Here after learning Don Newkirk passed away....the first R&B artist signed to Def Jam Records. Just thinking about the road he paved for so many artists. For those who weren't yet born or were too young for this era in Hip Hop and R&B, this was some formative years and helped usher in the genre becoming more mainstream. Being a group that included white and black artists was groundbreaking. They also should be applauded for calling out Vanilla Ice and his sampling of other music production without any acknowledgement or approval. Had they been on a label and not had The Beastie Boys, Vanilla Ice, and "M.C. Household Tool", I believe their success would have been much greater. You gotta pay homage though, an incredible video!

Shows what a little intelligent can be dangerous. You’re wrong about Vanilla Ice, he bought the rights to use them. He wasn’t asking permission he bought them straight up. And then to Say if so-and-so wasn’t around or so-and-so…dude that’s the lamest defense ever: saying if somebody didn’t have competition and others better than them they would’ve been the best?!? If nobody else played the sport someome would’ve been the best?!? That’s some serious cope logic bra

MC Serch was interviewed for the book series *HOW TO RAP* and *HOW TO RAP2*, and shared his rapping techniques. Here he talks about writing about yourself. "Write about yourself. The best way to become a great MC, I feel, is to make your ordinary story, about how you grew up, extraordinary. And if you can bring your story about where you were raised, on what block and what your mama did, and all of that, I think when you do that, and you do it in a way that makes people wanna listen and care, you’re on your way to being a great MC."

Still got a song I'm searching for. One day I'll find it. the only lyrics I remember are something about a mid life crisis and this funky flute melody

Straight up, MC DJ Serch (and Vanilla Ice) were arguably the two best, most creative, funky and funny white boy dancers out there. Word to your mother.

Just heard an interview where some dude named “Mouse” basically said MC Serch can’t speak on hip hop and how the culture should go because he’s white. Serch is more apart of the culture than some dude that never even dropped an album.

@@francosamericanmusings1560 yup, unfortunately. I don’t know how this guy even qualifies as the gatekeeper of hip hop. Serch was so respectful and he was in a den full of lions ready to tear him up if he said the wrong thing.

look at MC Lyte Paper Thin 2:20 and see who you see , 80's was different , we didnt judge like that especially since it was RUN DMC and JMJ who put 3rd base on , and tell mouse to go ask LL Cool J what the Beastie Boys means to him
