Was than oem crush washer you were adding that anti seize to? Or can I get the assortment set for harbor freight?
@WeekendWrenchTurner
2 жыл бұрын
That is an OEM washer, but the drain plug is essentially a copper ring. The crush washer goes on the fill plug. I've heard elsewhere that the issue is most likely the difference in metals causes some corrosion between the housing, washer, and bolt that ends up seizing all the pieces. Thanks for watching🍺👍

Lol, when I put in the 4.88 up front, I spent about 4 hours scrubbing the mud and crud off the cross member with a metal brush and purple power. Had to spend almost as much time cleaning the tub after showering too 😆😆😆

My GS 350 AWD has a hex on the front diff. Wonder if would work on yours. I have to do the rear too- it has the crappy plug hex. Starting to spray it every day.

@@WeekendWrenchTurner I heard some toyota guys use it (when I was poking around for info). Parts are 90341-24016 drain and 90341-18060 fill. Only a few bucks. You can check them out online. Lexus AWD sedans share parts with toyota trucks so it is likely it will fit. I bought a tundra filter and gasket.(same trans). Wish they put the hex on the rear too.

Question: I was recommended 75w-90 and at 14:52 in your video it says 75w-90 as well, why do you recommended going with 85w-140 instead? I too have 4.88's (Sierra gears)
@WeekendWrenchTurner
4 жыл бұрын
85w-140 is the recommendation from East Coast Gear Supply, who setup both the front and rear diffs on my '99 4Runner (eastcoastgearsupply.com/ft-2536-ecgs-gear-oil-recommendation.html). That's what I've been using on them and so far have no reason to complain. I will be doing the rear again here soon, so I may have a looksie in an upcoming video. Thanks for checking out my channel!!

Normally it takes a 10mm hex, but also thoroughly clean the gunk out of it as well to help it seat. Maybe some heat too 👍🤟

So the front diff has only the fill/drain plug vs separate fill/drain plugs?
@WeekendWrenchTurner
4 жыл бұрын
There are separate drain and fill plugs on the front diff on the 3rd gen Toyota 4Runners. Now I believe the ultimate issue is that instead of a crush washer, the drain plug on the these had a copper washer that causes it to become stuck. Thanks for watching!!

How big of a difference do the new gears feel to you? When your cruising at highway speeds say 65MPH are your RPM's higher than before? I really want 4.88's just wanted to hear your thoughts. Thx man.

It's a noticable difference in umph, especially given the fact I'm running 285/75/R16 tires (33"-ish). RPMs do run higher, but at 65 mph it's still well under 3000. From memory, they're right about 2700 when doing 70 mph. Thanks for checking out the video!

I honestly think that the torque value on these given in the FSM is too much. Even when torqued properly, which I've done several times now, they get stuck. Could be the copper washer on the steel case could be causing excessive corrosion too. Anyway, thanks for checking out my video 👍👍
