Changing tail housing ,shifter, and cover is the easiest way to fix the crooked shifter and rearwRf location. I used a S10 tail housing and cover. I also used a SM465 bell housing and mine came out of a V6 Camaro so it's a 14 spline. I then used a aftermarket astrovan clutch

I don't have a bench seat, the main reason the trucks had the forward position output tail shaft shifter was for seat clearance. Since my S10 Blazer has factory bucket seats I can easily run the rear shifter mount tail shaft setup putting the shifter right close to my hand without reaching forward like a sports car. I'm waiting to get the combo in before selecting the shifter handle to "dial" in the perfect fit. The GM T-5 came in 3 shifter positions, S10 style Forward, Astro style Middle, and the Camaro rear. I hope this helps. JD

wesolintKID If you have the Camaro Bellhousing you’ll have to test fit and see if it clears the larger LS flywheel. The Camaro iirc used a 10.5” clutch and the LS has a metric clutch 11.3? Another area you would need to check is the center opening on the bellhousing, it needs to fit the transmission properly, a truck V8 bellhousing usually has a slightly larger hole requiring a shim/spacer ring to properly center the transmission. With out centering the transmission you will have tons of issues with bearing noise, wear and vibration. This was my issue and mistake, I wasn’t aware at the time. Honestly, the best think you could do is shop for an aftermarket bellhousing, not cheap but safer. Thanks for watching and the feedback I appreciate it! JD Bellhousing I used was for SBC/BBC V8

Daily driving on street tires with a stock 350 the transmission should be fine. What would hurt it are clutch dumps and too much traction. A T-56 is really expensive; seems like an extreme purchase, but you make the budget. A WC T-5 with the basic upgrades and zero end play can handle 400+ Hp.

Devon Kelly Well, here's what I've found: 1. Possibly a million Foxbody Mustangs ran/run the T5 at various power levels. Yes they do break from time to time and no it's not always because of sticky tires. The 305 TQ limit seems highly misleading when you consider the history. It's true the T5 is weaker than the old T-10's and M20,21,22 Muncie. It really depends on how you will drive it and pure luck. 2. I've seen even non World Class T5 run hard on the streets and Track. 3. It's a challenge and a gamble but a T-56 is expensive. I'm not familiar with the NV transmissions. 4. I'm building a driver not a racer so I'm not worried about the T5 behind a 300 hp engine.

The T5 in your 97 Camaro has the "Ford" style bolt pattern and a 7+ inch long input shaft.....you will need either an adapter plate from Hotrod Works to go from Ford to Muncie pattern or a custom scattershield. It also has a 3.75 first gear which decreases the torque capacity of the transmission even further than the 300 ft. lb rating on the V8 cores.

It depends on the budget, vehicle weight, and intended use. The 4.8 has a stronger rod/stroke ratio meaning you can safely rev it to higher RPM's. Off idle torque of the 5.3 will be better than the 4.8 from the longer stroke. 4.8 is a very under rated engine, same parts in both the 5.3 only makes maybe 20-30 more HP. 5.3 are more popular and maybe better suited for Full size trucks, again depends on usage.
