This is one of my favorite Tim Mackie teachings! It provides so much depth as to what a covenant is, but also reminds us of God's faithfulness and unfailing love throughout Scripture and even in our own lives. Thank you Tim!

Tim, I dont know if you'll ever see this but, I pray that you do! Your knowledge seems like of from a spirit, which God worked with, in amalgamation, while assembling Bible. I have read and seen hundreds of accounts on Bible but, your take on its meaning and insight is amazing. Thank you for being a part of Jesus' kingdom! Thank you for doing your PhD, because what you could gather and partake out of that is amazing! God Bless You

Often missed Covenant in the Bible- the covenant of works or life. Hosea: 6:7: 7 ¶ But like Adam they transgressed the covenant; there they dealt faithlessly with me. What covenant did Adam break? The covenant of Life. Genesis 2:16-17: 6 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eatfn of it you shall surely die.”

Why "the covenant of works of life"? Hosea says just "the covenant".

Love your video, use it a lot. Wondering why you don't also include the covenant of Eden, and then when Adam and Eve failed, the covenant of Adam, promise being Gen 3:15, leading to New Covenant?

In the strictest sense, a covenant is a type of term within a contract that is binding not only on the parties who originally enter into contract but on all future successors who have an interest in that contractual arrangement. An example of this concept is where Landowner A sells a portion of his land to Landowner B on the condition that Landowner A and his successors have an easement with respect to Landowner B’s tract of land. So here, Landowner A and B are in covenant, so to speak, since they as well as their successors must honor this agreement concerning the easement made by the original parties (ie, Landowners A and B); the contract term creating the easement is a covenant. By this definition, it’s difficult to view a marriage as a covenant-other than the fact that it is a very important and long-lasting agreement-since the successors of the two original parties are not really a party to the terms of the original agreement nor are any of the terms of the original agreement binding on successors. I mean, who are the successors in interest to a couple’s marriage? It’s just that couple’s marriage. Nonetheless, I take away the point that marriage is a unique and solemn agreement.
