comments being too offensively deffensive about all of this... i get america has standads, but get that different countries might have different standards as well.. 2nd, and i know its wild for most of you, but in some countries, when youre building a house you really need to know at least some of the stuffs cause if not you would really get scammed.. crazy, i know, but it happens. and its not just about getting people from the side or something. sometimes even known developers would do it of they could get away with it... for some, lets say for a subdivision, you need to observe what they are doing or they would do some shortcuts... so for some its not crazy to have someone watch over the house being built by someone they trust.. it might annoy the contractors but its better safe than sorry. its your house, its your money, why would you not watch over it if theres a chance that something "magical" happens. some contractors even expects that someone would be sent to observe them, if not, then those customers would be labeled as gullible not saying that the comments are wrong.. what im just saying is if its not happening in your place then thats great.. but some other places arent as ideal as yours.. surprise

I don't know where this was filmed. I have wired a domestic, commercial or industrial electrical installation to BS EN 7671 18th edition. I have no experience with this type of installation. We calculate volt drop and cable sizes for different circuits and protection devices. We document all test results and hand over the documentation with the finish installation. The customer might say " can you run cables from this point to this point" but the routes need to follow the prescribed routes and not random routes that maybe damaged by drilled fixing holes at a later date. 😮

Anybody who decides to change their home distribution plan to an underfloor system better be ready for a massive inconvenience, a massive increase in construction time and a massive uplift in price. 4) running cables underfloor will, in most cases, eliminate the possibility of underfloor heating systems (due to building codes)

This is 100% inaccurate. By code only grey colored conduit (when dealing with ABS or plastic conduit). The red and blue colors are reserved for plumbing water lines. White is used for supply water (potable) and black is used for grey (sewage) water. Also the are required depths for conduits in ground and requirements for conduit protection when conduit runs are subfloor or hidden in walls. Lastly if a licensed electrician does your install he'll do it to meet code and do it quickly. Time is money. If you hired your electrician by the hour and not on a bid, you will probably pay more. Next time use video footage that actually reflects an electricial installation.

Truthfully, running it underground still exposes the wires to the same ware and tear as above ground, but also subjects them to condensation. On top of a complete inability to perform any sort of maintenance without tearing apart your foundation and pouring it again. In Greece and probably other European countries the electrical cables are installed in the walls, not on the floor or the ceiling which makes sense when it comes to underfloor heating pipes installation. But i guess this happens cause our walls are made of cement.

Maintenance gonna be a huge pain if the conduits are on the floor.

If you used wire in the plastic wrapped round the conduit lengths - You could easily find the wire cables under the floor - With a metal detector. Or you could drill through it. It's better using metal conduit, it won't crack under weight, like plastic.

I'm wondering what we do with the floor once it's finished.

@@CIFYou Everything is designed poorly now. they used to have double brick walls and run the electrical wires through the cavity. Much Safer. If they thought out the Design, the toilets would all be on the inside of the outer walls, just like the sink, and shower. They used to use strong heavy duty ceramic pipe - This way you have a trench outside the house, the pipes are big enough and strong enough - Fitted with covers where you could use long rods to clear the blockage. No need to change the pipe or dig it up. Hot high pressure water would clean them out in 10 minutes. Check 1950 1960 design methods for a comparison of the materials used and the design.

I run my cables myself (not electrician, but I work in IT so have some basic knowledge of low voltage cables) and I can tell you the electical code varies everywhere and my spark told me that I was 0.25 inch close to make it fail the check

It doesn't matter what the customer says, when I am working with wires, the NEC is my only deity. If the customer isn't ok with that, I'll happily kiss him goodbye. Period.

Let the Electrical Engineer prepare the electrical plan in compliance with the building code and then let the electrician install the conduits and wires as per plan.

As an electrician I'm horrified of that underground spagetti, non standard mess! If anything that will cause a lot of trouble, maybe even fatal outcome!

Meanwhile, any licensed electrician who wants to keep their licence and avoid fines will install to code, and tell the customer that’s how it’s going to be done, and no amount of begging or yelling will alter that.

Wire underground cost way more than running it over the ceiling. And running it up to the ceiling and back down again may add length but in no way does that increase your power bill with a minuscule amount of resistance added. Let me change it to microminimal infantismal amount of resistance.

I thought that maintenance would be easier if the cables are in the wall and ceeling. But if you use these pipes and boxes I guess it is simle to pull the cable out since it is not stuck in any way. Though the picture of crossing pipes and pipes going in the middle of the floor like spider web looks a bit daunting.

If you want the electrician to know you know what you are talking about, just let him know you are friends with the electrical inspector!
